In Her First Meeting As Drug Czar, Leni Robredo Asks For Data

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In her first meeting as Co-chair of the Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD), Vice President Leni Robredo asked for data.

Her request seemed to contrast with her previous video message to the United Nations where she criticized her government’s war on drugs by citing “data” on alleged extra-judicial killings (EJKs).

Robrdo said she wantd data “because before today, I did not have access to the kind of data that you had access to.”

In responding to her request, the committee unanimously approved her request for data and loaded her iPhone with three years’ worth of unlimited data. It was a donation from Globe Communications.

Now, she will have no problems making calls or sending text messages on her phone, as well as having wi-fi access 24/7.

All she had to do was ask.

Robredo Wants Concurrent Cabinet, Other Posts

562623B3-0A69-4EDF-8C64-3F9449E63C43MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Arguing that she needed more powers to be able to solve the country’s illegal drug problem, Vice President Leni Robredo asked Malacanang to appoint her — concurrently — to other Cabinet and agency posts.

Robredo, who has just been appointed Co-chair of the Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD), wants to be appointed Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Governments (DILG), Secretary of Foreign Affairs (DFA), Secretary of Justice (DOJ) and Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

In justifying her request, the Vice President said that as Drug Czar, she needs to be in full control of DILG so that the war on drugs can be effectively waged on the local level.  As PNP Chief, she says she’ll be able to order all police officers to stop the “EJKs.”  The prosecution of drug lords can only be pursued if she were to be appointed DOJ Secretary, she added.

Why Secretary of Foreign Affairs?  She said she needs the proper diplomatic portfolio to be able to allow the United Nations to investigate the EJKs and other  violations of Human Rights connected with the Philippines’ drug war.

Robredo seems very serious in her new role as Drug Czar.  She says if given all the needed powers, she can solve the drug problem in less than three months.

Duterte Issues First Warning To Leni Robredo

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – If Vice President Leni Robredo still thinks that President Rodrigo Duterte wasn’t serious in designating her as Co-Chair of the Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) — a Cabinet level position — she should think again.

Today, Duterte served her a memorandum warning her about repeating her absence from last night’s Cabinet meeting.

A lesson learned for Robredo.  She needs to know who is boss!
