Compared To Michelle Dee’s National Costume and Evening Gown, Miss Nicaragua’s Is More Controversial

MANAGUA, Nicaragua (The Adobo Chronicles, Managua Bureau) – Move over, Michelle Dee. Your controversial (and winning) national costume and black evening gown are peanuts when it comes to Miss Nicaragua’s (and Miss Universe) white and blue finals night outfit.

Apparently, politics is much involved. The gown in which Sheynnis Palacios was crowned — a flowing white dress with a blue cape resembling images of Nicaragua’s patron saint, the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception — is viewed as a symbolic protest against the Nicaraguan government amid a crackdown on the Catholic Church.

Already, the government has barred the Miss Universe Nicaragua national director from re-entering the country, which puts in question how Palacios will be dealt with or treated since she has become the latest symbol of the opposition to President Jose Daniel Ortega Saavedra’s government.

While Nicaraguans are beaming with pride over their first-ever Miss Universe crown, Ortega’s government is teeming with anger.

MANAGUA , Nicaragua (The Adobo Chronicles, Managua Bureau) – Nicaraguan authorities have barred the director of the national beauty pageant from re-entering the country after a Nicaraguan woman seen as a symbol of opposition to the Ortega government was crowned Miss Universe, media reports and exiled opposition members said. 

Karen Celebertti and her daughter were detained upon their arrival at the Managua airport — days after seeing 23-year-old Sheynnis Palacios crowned as the first Miss Universe from Nicaragua — and placed on a flight to Mexico, the opposition-linked La Prensa newspaper reported.

Following this development, Palacios now faces uncertainty over her continued reign as the new Miss Universe. Will Nicaraguan authorities also bar her from returning to the country or limit her travel and queenly activities?

Now there is speculation that if Palacios cannot fully fulfill her duties as Miss Universe, then the first runner-up takes over, as per pageant rules. That would be Miss Thailand, Anntonia Porsild. And if this happens, would Michelle Dee be officially named among the Top 5 finalists or even be declared first runner-up?

Lupita Jones, the national director of Miss Universe Mexico, strutted out in style after her country’s representative failed to sashay into the semi-finals of the 72nd Miss Universe pageant. 

It seems the tiara-tantrum was so spectacular that it left us pondering: did the disappointment over the contestant’s elimination or the walkout itself lay the egg for Lupita Jones’ impending replacement as national director?

In the intricate world of beauty pageants, where grace meets glitter, Jones’ dramatic exit raises questions about priorities. Perhaps the cosmic ballet of cosmic beauty queens and their directors is as elusive as the age-old dilemma of the chicken and the egg.
