Netizens React: Only Two Sexes Exist — Biologists

NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles) – In a commentary in the Feb. 3 edition of The Wall Street Journal, biologists Colin Wright and Emma Hilton explain that, scientifically, there are only two sexes, male and female, and there is no sex “spectrum.” They also stress that “biologists and medical professionals” must stop being politically correct and “stand up for the empirical reality of biological sex.”

The comments by the biologists immediately drew fierce reaction from netizens — members of both the straight the LGBT communities — with many arguing that the only two sexes that exist are (having) sex or no sex.

Senator Risa Hontiveros Files POGIE Bill

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Sensing that her Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) bill is headed for failure, Opposition Senator Risa Hontiveros filed a new proposal she is calling ‘POGIE.’

POGIE stands for Pet Orientation and Gender Identity Expression.

Hontiveros’ new bill, which is aimed at protecting the rights of animals, will prohibit veterinarians from indicating the gender of newly-born pets in their birth certificates.  The proposal prescribes for a waiting period of 3 years (that’s 21 in dog years) before a pet owner can have his or her animal’s gender indicated on the birth certificate.

In batting for the new bill, Hontiveros said the 3-year waiting period will allow pet owners to observe the sexual behaviour of their animal companions.  It will ensure that their pets will not be wrongfully assigned a gender at birth.

The Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), a volunteer-based, non-government organization whose aim is to prevent animal cruelty, has thrown its 100% support for Hontiveros’ proposal.

Preempting SOGIE: Baguio City Council Passes SOGO

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Baguip Bureau) – The Summer Capital of the Philippines has become infamous because of controversial ordinances passed by its City Councilors and signed into law by the Mayor.

The ordinances include ‘no cussing’ and ‘no use of electronic gadgets while walking the streets of Baguio. At some point the local officials were also considering a Barangay proposal to ban the public hanging of underwear to dry.

Now,  Baguio City Hall, in a move to preempt the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression (SOGIE) Bill now being deliberated on in the Philippine Senate, has passed its own local ordinance in support of the LGBT community.

The new law is called SOGO — Sexual Orientation and Gender Ordinance — which outlines comprehensive measures to prevent and outlaw discriminatory practices directed at LGBTs.

While LGBT advocates praised the new ordinance, a popular budget hotel chain is suing the city government for trademark infringement. The hotel chain, of course, is SOGO.
