QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – Former Philippine Vice President and screaming news reader Noli de Castro questioned why celebrities Maine Mendoza and Arjo Atayde wed during the onslaught of typhoon Egay.
De Castro wasn’t happy that while thousands of Filipinos were experiencing the devastating effects of the typhoon, Mendoza and Atayde were tying the knot in Baguio City.
The Adobo Chronicles has this question for de Castro:
Why were you wearing a suit while reading the news in the height of the typhoon? Shouldn’t you have worn a raincoat instead?
Nonetheless, we fully support de Castro — his permanent retirement.
QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – ‘Tis the season for name and logo changes, and GMA television is no exception.
Today, GTV which is entirely owned by GMA Network announced it will rebrand itself and henceforth will be called BTV.
The decision came after GTV and GMA were criticized by Filipino TV audiences for allowing the kind of slapstick and offensive comedy that defines its noon-time show, “It’s Showtime.”
The end of the straw came in a recent episode of the show where real-life partners Vice Ganda and Ion Perez were seen provocatively finger-licking some cake icing in front of children. Many saw the act very inappropriate and called the MTRCB (Movie and Television Ratings and Classification Board) to impose sanctions on the show and network.
Unknown to many, “GTV” stands for “Good TV.” The new name, “BTV” will mean “Bad TV.”
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Hollywood film, “Barbie” starring Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, is finally showing in the Philippines after the go-signal from the Movie & Television Ratings and Classification Board (MTRCB).
There were earlier moves to ban the movie for featuring a map showing China’s 9-dash lane which many argued was an intrusion into the Philippines’ territory.
Yesterday, ex-Vice President Leni Robredo formally endorsed the movie, saying it is a tribute to her and her Pinklawan movement. She encouraged all the 15 million who voted for her in the 2022 presidential elections to go see the film, and to wear pink when they do.
Is this a precursor to Robredo’s much-talked about candidacy in the 2025 senatorial elections?
