Contestants of Philippine heritage have done extremely well in reality shows like X Factor Israel and Bulgaria, Britain’s Got Talent, Sing Off, and American Idol, among others.

Honolulu, Hawaii – From Israel to Bulgaria, from the U.S. to Great Britain, Filipinos are making waves in reality TV’s singing competitions, and show producers are not pleased.

Meeting in Honolulu for their annual convention, executive producers of the X Factor, Britain’s Got Talent, American Idol, The Voice and Sing Off today issued a joint announcement that henceforth, contestants from, or have a connection to the Philippines will be barred from participating in the TV shows.

“The reason we have foreign versions of these “franchise” shows is to discover talents from across the globe, and it is quite unfair that in every one of these shows, Filipinos are either winning or moving on to the finals,” the producers said.

The group added that the Philippines has its own local version of these shows, including Philippine Idol and PH Voice. “If Filipinos want to join these competitions, they should do so in their home country,” the group said.

Readers of The Adobo Chronicles will recall that just recently, the Philippines was also banned from international beauty pageants because its candidates have practically dominated the contest, having been consistently included in the top 5.  This year alone, the Philippines won the titles of Miss World, Miss Supranational and Miss International.

Reacting to the announcement by the television producers, the Consul General of the Philippine Consulate in Honolulu said, “So, what’s next? Are they also going to ban the Philippines from the sport of boxing?”

HOLLYWOOD CRIES ‘FOUL’ OVER FILIPINO SUBMISSIONS TO OSCARS

imageHollywood,  California – The Academy Awards nominations for the 86th Oscars will not be announced until January 16, 2014, but already, controversy has come to Hollywood town.

Members of the Academy of  Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are crying foul over official submissions to the foreign language film category of the Oscars.  The root of the controversy is the fact that the Philippines has not one, but three entries. These include “Transit, ” the Philippines’ official submisson; “Metro Manila,” the U.K.’s submission and “Ilo Ilo,” the official entry of Singapore. All three have a theme about the Philippines and feature Filipino characters living in the country or abroad.

The protesting members said that  in effect, the Philippines has three entries in the said category. “That gives the  Philippines two extra chances of being nominated for, and awarded, an Oscar,” they said.

The Academy’s board of governors is set to meet next week to discuss the complaints and issue a ruling.

Meanwhile, Ellen DeGeneres, the host for the 86th Oscar Awards ceremonies, is reportedly thrilled about the “triple”  chances for the Philippines to win an Oscar.  It is common knowledge that Ellen has a special spot in her heart for Filipinos. Many of her invited guests for her “Ellen” show were great Filipino talents she discovered via the the Internet, among them singing star Charice, wonder boy Kai Langer and teen YouTube sensation Aldrich Lloyd Talonding.

Atlanta, Georgia –  After almost a year of tinkering, CNN Worldwide President Jeff Zucker has concluded that a news channel cannot subsist on news alone. So he is planning much broader changes for the network—including a prime-time shakeup that’s likely to make CNN traditionalists cringe.

In the first of what was expected to be a series of announcements on new programming, Zucker – who admits his name sounds like “hooker,”  revealed that CNN has signed a 3-year contract with reality TV personality Kim Kardashian to anchor a prime time hour-long show titled “KKG 24/7.” Kardasian will discuss with invited pundits the latest gossip in politics, entertainment and world events.” “KKG” is the acronym for Kim Kardashian Gossip.

“KKG 24/7” will reportedly replace Anderson Cooper’s “AC 360.” It isn’t known whether “AC 360” will go off the air.

Last month, The Adobo Chronicles reported that Cooper has been nominated by President Obama to be the next U.S. ambassador to the Philippines, after his outstanding live coverage of the aftermath of Typhoon Haiyan. Now that Cooper has been bumped off CNN, will he finally become Ambassador Cooper?
