MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Forget all the controversy surrounding Sunday’s Binibining Pilipinas (Miss Philippines) pageant contestants and judges. There’s a bigger controversy brewing involving pageant host, singer-actress Toni Gonzaga.

Gonzaga co-hosted the televised pageant finals at the Araneta Coliseum with the very good-looking Xiam Lim.

The female host got mixed reviews about her hosting duties on Sunday.  Some described her emceeing style as a “breath of fresh air,” while many were critical of her off-the-cuff, often sarcastic remarks which made the beauty contestants (and the judges) more nervous and uneasy than they already were.

But that’s the least of Gonzaga’s concerns.

Today, she lambasted the Binibining Pilipinas Charities (BPC), organizer of the annual pageant, for tricking her to believe that she would be included in the evening gown competition.

“I had to scour the innermost stalls in Divisoria to look for the best evening gown I could find, hoping that I can be at par with the contestants’ designer gowns,” she said.

Gonzaga was visibly very upset when the name of the best in evening gown was announced. It wasn’t her.

After the show, Gonzaga confronted BPC chairwoman Stella Marquez Araneta who explained to her that she may have misunderstood the agreement as co-host. “What I said was that I hope you can wear an evening gown that would stand out amid all the designer dresses that the contestants will be wearing on pageant finals,” Araneta told her.  “I never said that you will be part of the evening gown competition.”

As a compromise, Mrs. Araneta promised to reimburse Gonzaga the full amount that she paid for her blue, flowing, extravagant gown which took quite a lot of space on stage.

The amount wasn’t much, really, since Gonzaga purchased it from Divisoria. And we’re not being sarcastic.

MILLIONS PETITION THE WHITE HOUSE TO STOP FILMING OF ‘FROZEN 2’

imageWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – Millions of Americans – 2.5 Million as of latest count – have signed a petition on WhiteHouse.gov, urging the Office of the President to stop the filming of ‘Frozen 2,’ the sequel to the blockbuster Disney animation.

The petition was formally submitted to The White House just minutes after Disney CEO Bob Iger made the announcement of the sequel at the Disney shareholder meeting. Frozen co-directors Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck will both be involved in the sequel, Iger says, as will original producer Peter Del Vecho. No production details or release dates have been revealed.

The petitioners, mostly parents with young children, asked The White House to spare them from more agonizing moments listening over and over to the film’s theme song, ‘Let It Go,’ or whatever the new song will be for the sequel.

As of press time, the Association of Karaoke Bars and Restaurants (AKBR) has voted to add its name to the petition, saying that since the Karaoke version of the song ‘Let It Go,’ was released, they have lost business because many annoyed customers have stayed away, not wanting to hear any more of this Oscar-winning song.

Inside sources at Disney, speaking on condition of anonymity, told The Adobo Chronicles that John Travolta has been tapped to record the ‘Frozen 2’ theme song.

If the song gets nominated and Travolta will perform the song at the next Oscars, he will be introduced by Adele Dazeem.

MILLIONS WORLDWIDE GETTING HOOKED ON ZUMBA CLASSES, THANKS TO MICHELLE OBAMA

HALLANDALE, Florida (The Adobo Chronicles) – Until recently, it has been estimated that 15 Million people take weekly Zumba classes in over 140,000 locations across more than 185 countries.

Zumba is a dance fitness program created by Colombian dancer and choreographer Alberto ‘Beto’ Perez in the 1990s.  It involves dance and aerobic elements and incorporates hip-hop, soca, samba, salsa, merengue and mambo.  Squats and lunges are also included.

Now, thanks to U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama, the number of Zumba enthusiasts has more than doubled in just the last week or so, according to Zumba Fitness, LLC, which owns the Zumba trademark. Think about it, more than 30 Million people worldwide dancing the Zumba — young and old, gay and straight, men and women, politicians and businessmen —  of all races!

It all started when Obama appeared on the Ellen Show, and together with Ellen DeGeneres and some dancers and choreographers from the hit TV show, So You Think You Can Dance, shook her hips, squatted and lunged, stretched her arms, stepped and double-stepped — all for the sake of promoting her fitness program which is celebrating its 5th year.  Hence the tag, “Give Me Five!”

Indeed, Michelle Obama is now the undisputed greatest endorser of health and fitness, Zumba included.

Here’s the video of Mrs. Obama’s appearance on the Ellen Show.
