‘THE VOICE’ WILL CHANGE ITS FORMAT STARTING NEXT SEASON

Sia

UNIVERSAL CITY, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – The television show, ‘The Voice’ operates on the concept that singers should be judged based on their singing and not on their looks.

The reality show has gained enormous popularity since it first aired in 2011, and has spread across the globe through local franchises, including the Philippines.

Today, the U.S. version of ‘The Voice’ had Sia as its featured guest singer.

Of course we know Sia as the voice behind many hits like ‘Chandelier’, but the Grammy-nominated artist is incredibly shy when it comes to showing her face at public events. Hence she appears with her face fully covered by her hair, just like she did on tonight’s show.

After her guest appearance, the producers of ‘The Voice’ had a light bulb moment.

Starting next season –if there is going to be one —  all contestants, from the blind audition all the way to the finals, will have to cover their faces with their hair or a veil.  This way, the show will remain true to its original concept that the best singers don’t necessarily have to be the most good-looking.

The Adobo Chronicles  fully supports this new format. And so does Reyna Elena, a Filipino American fan of the show.

We tried to reach Broadway star Lea Salonga, a judge in the Philippine version of the show, but were unsuccessful.  (Miss Salonga, if you happen to read this, please contact us).

SHARON CUNETA, KRIS AQUINO LEAVING THE PHILIPPINES FOR GOOD

LOS ANGELES, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Speaking to reporters while vacationing in Los Angeles, Filipina megastar Sharon Cuneta revealed plans to leave the Philippines for good and spend her retirement years in America.

Cuneta, who just made a recent comeback on the ABS-CBN television network, blamed the scary and unstable conditions in the Philippines which she said won’t be good for her family’s future.

Not to be outdone, presidential sister and TV host Kris Aquino followed suit, announcing that she, too, would like to permanently leave her showbiz life in the Philippines and retire in Massachusetts, her family’s home state during the self-imposed exile of her dad, the late Senator Benigno Aquino, Jr.

“I’m just sick and tired of being the butt of jokes in the Philippines,” Aquino said, and I am looking forward to a quiet life of retirement in Boston, far from the madding crowd and the glaring spotlight of show business.”

‘I realize that I will not  be the Philippines’ queen of all media forever, and I know — especially when my brother is no longer president — that my legions of fans will eventually diminish,” she said.

It seems quite ironic that Aquino made the announcement just days after one of her long-running shows, ‘The Buzz,’ was cancelled by the ABS-CBN network.  She indicated to reporters that she has strong feelings that the next show to get the ax is her mainstay show, “Abunda and Aquino Tonight.”

Asked about how she wants to spend her retirement in America, Aquino said, “I’d like to establish several Chowking franchises in the U.S. East Coast,” referring to the Chinese-style Filipino fast food restaurant that’s gaining popularity in America. She already owns one such franchise in Manila.

DONALD TRUMP TO TREVOR NOAH: ‘SHOW ME YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE’

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles) – Real estate mogul Donald Trump just can’t let go of his birther rants, and he seems to be getting more and more desperate about his misplaced crusade.

Trump led the charge on the view that Barack Obama wasn’t born in the United States, and questioned the authenticity of the president’s publicly-released copy of his Hawaii birth certificate.

On the same day that Ted Cruz (R-TX) announced that he was running for president, Trump suggested that the Republican senator may not be eligible to become president because he was born in Canada. Cruz , of course, has maintained that he is eligible to be president since he was born to an American mother, despite having been born in Calgary, Alberta. He was a dual citizen until 2014 when he renounced his Canadian citizenship.

Today, Trump launched his latest birther attack against Trevor Noah who, just this week, was named successor to Jon Stewart who would be stepping down as host of the satirical ‘The Daily Show’ sometime this year.

“I need you to show your birth certificate,’ Trump challenged Noah, ‘to prove that you are truly African American.’

Apparently, Trump missed that part of Comedy Central’s announcement and the subsequent media coverage of Noah’s appointment, stating that the biracial comedian is, in fact, from South Africa, born to a South African mom and a German dad.

When informed about Noah’s non-U.S. citizenship, Trump immediately turned his attention back to Miss Japan, Ariana Miyamoto, a half-Japanese and half-African American who will represent her country in the next Miss Universe Beauty Pageant which he owns.

Earlier, Trump had announced that he would disqualify Miss Japan from competing in Miss Universe because of her biracial status.
