Maria Ressa: The World’s New Prophet Of Doom

Screenshot

Maria Ressa, the new prophet of doom, proclaimed at Harvard that the world’s on fire, fascists are coming, and she’s bravely fighting an imaginary battle. Desperate for attention, she’s turned commencement speeches into theatrical warnings. Harvard grads, welcome to Ressa’s apocalyptic fantasy land!

Maria Ressa’s “Fascism”

Maria Ressa, Harvard’s latest prophet of doom, warned the graduates that “the fascists are coming!”

Ah, classic Ressa. Ever the provocateur, she never misses an opportunity to turn a commencement or other speech into a melodramatic saga.

Remember when she dubbed the Philippines the worst war zone? Or claimed she and Rappler were enduring a “death by a thousand cuts”? Or saying the law itself is a weapon against her sacred right to free speech? It’s almost as if she’s got a bingo card of hyperbolic phrases to shock her audience.

This latest “fascists” declaration? Just another desperate bid for media attention as her reputation sinks at home. One can only imagine Mussolini and Hitler twitching in their graves.

Ironically, Ressa’s dictating such ludicrous rhetoric to presumably bright graduates smacks of the very fascism she decries. Perhaps the Nobel committee is now realizing their colossal mistake in awarding her that prize many others better truly deserved.

Maria Ressa And The Battlefield Of The Elite

Maria Ressa’s address to Harvard graduates was nothing short of a masterclass in irony. Inviting fresh minds to join the “battle for trust,” she delivered this rallying cry as the head of Rappler, the least-trusted news brand in the Philippines. Yes, the world is ablaze, but not just in conflict zones like Gaza or Ukraine. No, Ressa imagines the Philippines as the ultimate war zone, surpassing all. It’s a perspective only someone convicted of cyber libel and honored with a Doctor of Laws could conjure. One might wonder if the honorary degree was awarded for her deft handling of legal entanglements, both personal and as the proprietor of a foreign-funded outlet.

The culmination of this spectacle? A black-tie reception celebrating Ressa and her cohort—welcome to the battleground of the elite! This, dear graduates, is the battlefield of selective valor and elite commendation.
