Mar Roxas, Liberal Party Fail To File Statement Of Contributions And Expenses, Blame Defective Scanners

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Mar Roxas failed to file his Statement of Contributions and Expenses (SOCE) in connection with his failed bid for the Philippine presidency. The filing of SOCE is required by the rules of the Commission on Elections. Roxas is the lone presidential candidate that failed to submit his SOCE.

Roxas’ party, the Liberal Party (LP) also failed to meet the filing deadline.  Both Roxas and LP campaigned on the theme of ‘Daang Matuwid’ (straight path) which adheres to the rule of law.

In requesting for a 14-day extension to file the SOCE,  Roxas blamed his party’s defective scanners which he needed to scan what he and LP described as “voluminous number of receipts.” “How can we scan those receipts and other required documents if our scanners are not working?” Roxas said.

Meanwhile, Vice President-elect Leni Robredo, also of the Liberal Party, did file her SOCE on time, showing that she outspent all her VP rivals. “That’s why I will have to take the bus instead of the airplane for the next 6 years because I am out of funds,” Robredo told The Adobo Chronicles.

According to the SOCE filings, the following were the total amounts raised and spent by the VP candidates:

Robredo, P418.6 Milion
Escudero, P322.5 Million
Cayetano, P189.1 Million
Marcos, P140.5 Million
Trillanes, P61.8 Million
Honasan, P26.2 Million

Philippine President-Elect Duterte: A Cabinet Position For The Vice

Vice and President-elect Duterte

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – President-elect Rod Duterte has decided to give Vice a special Cabinet position in his administration. And no, he is not talking about Vice Presidential-elect Leni Robredo. Rather, he is referring to showbiz personality Vice Ganda.

Duterte’s announcement finally ends all speculation about whether or not he will appoint Robredo to a Cabinet position as is the usual practice by incoming administrations. Robredo ran as the VP candidate of the opposing Liberal Party. She won over five other candidates, including Duterte’s running mate, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano.

Vice Ganda, who has earned the respect and trust of Duterte during the presidential campaign period, will be designated the LGBT Czar, a Cabinet-level position that will serve as the administration’s liaison with the country’s gay and lesbian community.

“I can only appoint one Vice to my Cabinet, and I have chosen the one that I trust most and who has supported my campaign,” Duterte said, referring to the television host.

Vice Ganda’s appointment has not been reported in the media because local reporters have been banned from attending Duterte’s public events and press briefings. Ironically, the local media were urged to boycott Duterte’s press briefings after he was quoted as saying that murdered journalists — particularly the “son-of-a-b*****s,” deserved their fate. It turns out, it was Duterte who ended up boycotting the reporters.

WASHINGTON D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – Supporters of Hillary Clinton have taken their meme and hashtag, “imwithher” all the way to the former secretary of state’s nomination victory on Tuesday night, but U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan maintained his own meme of “imwithhim.” And no, he wasn’t referring to Clinton’s rival Bernie Sanders.  He was talking about Donald Trump.

But Ryan wasn’t always with Trump.

Since becoming speaker, Ryan has been quiet and cautious about endorsing the Republican candidate, now presumptive presidential nominee.

Just on Tuesday, Ryan slammed Trump’s comments about federal Judge Gonzalo Curiel. Trump has repeatedly questioned the impartiality of the Indiana-born judge, whose parents immigrated from Mexico, in the Trump University lawsuit case he is presiding over.

Ryan said Trump’s comments constituted a textbook definition of “racism.”

But then on Wednesday, Ryan said he was 100% in support of the GOP presidential standard bearer.

Let’s see what he says tomorrow.
