Philippine Media Turn To Stale News

image.jpegMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – On June 11, 2016, two of the country’s leading newspapers published misleading news.

The Inquirer and Philippine Star both reported that Philippine President-elect Rod Duterte had a 26% trust rating compared to Vice President-elect Leni Robredo’s 45%, making it appear to the reading public that Duterte, who garnered 16 Million votes during last month’s elections was much less popular than Robredo who got 14 Million votes.

It took some critical reading to realize that the survey, conducted by Social Weather Stations (SWS), was conducted from May 1 to 3, just before the May 5 elections.

Other media outlets, including ABS-CBN also posted follow-up stories on the stale survey.

When asked by The Adobo Chronicles why they chose to make headlines out of a stale news, spokespersons for the media outlets said that they had no choice since Duterte had stopped conducting media briefings. “It’s been a slow news day every day since our reporters have had little to no access to the president-elect.  We have to come up with news for our headlines, otherwise, we will be forced to bow out of business.”

Explanation accepted.

Hillary Needs Your Help: Which Color Pantsuit For Her Inauguration?

imageWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – American presidents have donned dark suits, tuxedos and top coats when they took their oath of office, but should Hillary Clinton win the presidential elections in November, she faces a big dilemma. What would be the appropriate attire for her inauguration?

There has never been a woman U.S. president, so there is no precedent.

But the popular opinion is that Clinton should wear a business suit, and probably a business pantsuit which has been her signature work wardrobe. But what color?

Help Clinton decide by sharing your opinion in the comments section.  She’d love to hear from you!

Hillary Clinton Unveils New Campaign Logo

imageWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – It’s official.  Hillary Clinton has clinched the Democratic nomination for president, and the current occupant of the White House has officially endorsed her today.

So it’s time for Clinton to focus on the general elections where she faces the GOP’s presumptive nominee Donald Trump.

For starters, the Clinton campaign has unveiled a new logo that it says would better reflect the presidential contest that goes into full swing after both candidates have been proclaimed by their respective party conventions this summer.

Hillary Clinton’s new logo, a blue and red “H” with a bold arrow as the crossbar is not that much different from the old one except that the arrow in the new design is facting left instead of right.

During the Democratic contest, Clinton campaigned on a promise to move the country forward, hence the right arrow.  But in the general elections, the arrow facing left would symbolize the fact that Clinton is leaning to the left as opposed to Trump who is gravitating to the right.

Meanwhile, there is speculation that Trump might revise his own campaign mantra of “making America great again.” He is planning on launching a new meme of “Making the Trump Empire Great Again.” This new meme is to counter criticism by Trump opponents that the real estate mogul has had a history of failed business ventures ranging from repeated bankruptcies to losing the Miss U.S.A . and Miss Universe franchises, not to mention his celebrity reality show, “Celebrity Apprentice” going off air.
