”But we’ll be back in the 18th Congress.” Hontiveros quickly added.
MANILA. Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Days after Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to ditch Smartmarmatic, VP Leni Robredo came to the defense of the automated election system (AES) vendor and service provider.
During the recent midterm elections, Smartmatic has come under fire for glitches and gaffes which led some to question the integrity of results. It is the same Smartmatic that caused an uproar and election protest in the 2016 elections which resulted in the loss to Robredo by VP candidate Bongbong Marcos by a narrow margin.
Robredo said that Comelec should not rush to ditch Smartmatic. “They’re my hero and the wind beneath my wings,’ she told The Adobo Chronicles. “If not for them, I wouldn’t be sitting in Vice President’s chair right now.”
”We have always been taught not to bite the hand that feeds us. In a sense, that hand for me is Smartmatic so I’m throwing my 100% support behind them. I will oppose any and all efforts to ditch them.”
