U.S.A. Has Two Candidates In Miss Grand International

CARACAS, Venezuela (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – All the controversy regarding the travel woes of Miss Philippines Samantha Lo are much ado about nothing.

Lo, who is the Philippines’ representative to the Miss Grand International being held here, was reported to to have been barred in Paris from continuing on to Venezuela because of  “passport issues.”

Reports indicate that she had a “fake” Philippine passport, having obtained it from a “fixer.”

But all that doesn’t matter. As reported by ABS-CBN News, the local pageant organizer, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, confirmed Lo had a U.S. passport, proof she is a citizen of the United States.

With all that said, U.S.A. has two candidates for the Miss Grand International Crown.

How cool is that?

The Curious (Passport) Case of Miss Philippines Grand International Samantha Lo

CARACAS, Venezuela (The Adobo Chronicles, New York Bureau) – If it can happen to ex-Foreign Affairs Secretary Alberto del Rosario and ex-Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales, it can happen to the Philippines’ representative to the Miss Grand International beauty pageant.

It will be recalled that both del Rosario and Morales were barred from entering Hong Kong for passport and other issues.

Now, it appears Miss Philippines Samantha Lo was initially unable to reach the pageant’s host country — Venezuela — due to “passport issues.” (She finally made it on second try.)

Lo’s case has fueled lots of speculation and comments from beauty pageant-loving netizens, saying that this should never have happened to their beauty queen.

Some criticized the local pageant organizer, Binibining Pilipinas Charities, for not taking good  care of Lo’s travel documents.

Others speculated that the government of Venezuela didn’t want Lo to join the pageant because she was a big threat to its own candidate, Miss Venezuela.  The Philippines and Venezuela are often neck-and-neck when it comes to winning international beauty crowns.

Still a few Pinoys surmised that Lo was holding a Chinese passport, instead of a Filipino passport.

All unfounded rumors, of course.

We wish Miss Philippines the best of luck.  Bring home the bacon, ASF-free, we hope.

Maria Ressa Denies She’s ‘Dead’

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Social media was  abuzz with fake news that Rappler CEO Maria Ressa had passed away.

The ‘news’  started spreading soon after The New York Times  published an article about Ressa , accompanied by a photo, later manipulated by netizens, showing her in what appeared to be a lifeless pose.

In proclaiming she was very much alive, Ressa posted a selfie on her Twitter account, along with a sceeenshot of a recent issue of The Adobo Chronicles.

No need to convince us, Ms. Ressa.  We believe you, and thanks as always for your efforts to help promote our satire site.
