MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Leni Robredo fanatics and supportive netizens are standing by their mother figure, using every opportunity to give praise to their “Ina ng Bayan” (Mother of the Nation). This despite her devastating loss to Bongbong Marcos in the last Philippine presidential elections.
These kakampinks (Robredo supporters) have described the ex-Vice President as a “one-time unique phenomenon in the universe” and that there is no one like her.
The world’s top dictionaries for word synonyms wholeheartedly agree with the accolade given to Robredo.
Both word resources list synonyms of “phenomenon,” not the least of which are “anomaly” and “abnormality.”
BEIJING, China (The Adobo Chronicles, Hong Kong Bureau) – The Philippines’ coast guard and military condemned on Sunday what they called the China Coast Guard’s “dangerous” actions after it fired water cannons at Philippine vessels, the latest of Beijing’s aggressive actions in the West Philippine Sea.
But it was all a misunderstanding.
The Chinese Coast Guard said it was merely executing a formal salute as a friendship gesture to the Filipinos.
It is a fact that water cannons are used worldwide as a celebratory display for various occasions, including anniversaries of bridges, the landing of inaugural flights at airports, and other commemorative occasions.
MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – When the Department of Social Welfare and Development distributes relief good to Filipinos affected by calamities, the normal procedure is to do it through Local Government Units (LGUs). It is part of DSWD’s policy to not allow national politicians to interfere much less, take credit for the department’s relief distribution.
Well, Senator Risa Hontiveros has crossed the line.
She took it upon herself to personally distribute DSWD relief boxes to those affected by the recent super typhoon Egay.
DSWD said it is investigating how Hontiveros has laid her hands on the relief boxes and promised the Filipino people that heads will roll once it is determined who in the department authorized the unauthorized relief goods distribution by Hontiveros.
Meanwhile, DSWD issued a “cease and desist” order to Hontiveros so she would not repeat her illegal activity obviously aimed at rebuilding her sagging trust and popularity among the Filipinos.
