MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – In a Democracy like the Philippines’, everyone has the right to peaceful assembly or to publicly air a grievance — strikes included.
This week, some jeepney operators and drivers are staging a nationwide strike to protest the government’s public utility vehicle modernization program.
From all indications, the strike has been relatively unsuccessful especially in Metro Manila because not all transport groups participated, the vehicle coding program was suspended, and workplaces and schools allowed their employees students to work or study from home.
Nevertheless, many commuters who were pissed at the decision to strike are organizing a week-long boycott of all jeepneys that participated in the nationwide transport halt. The boycott starts March 13 and ends March 19.
Do not do unto others what you don’t want others to do unto you!
