MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles,Manila Bureau) – The threat of a nationwide jeepney strike starting March 6 may have been averted, thanks to a new proposal by the Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON).
While the Land Transportation Franchise and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has extended the deadline to upgrade and modernize jeepney units in the country to the year’sk end, PISTON continues to oppose what they have called a very expensive program.
Instead, PISTON unveiled its counter proposal to the modernized jeepney which it said will not only be more affordable to jeepney owners and operators but will also help ease the nightmarish traffic in Metro Manila and elsewhere.
The Adobo Chronicles secured a preview prototype of the PISTON proposal.
