MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – As businessman Wilfredo Keng withdrew his second cyber libel case against Maria Ressa, the Rappler CEO also withdrew her statements against the government.

Many will recall that Ressa had been using rhetoric directed at President Rodrigo Duterte and the Administration — statements like “the law is being weaponized against DU30 critics,” or “suppression of press freedom” or the Philippines being “the worst war zone” she has ever been to.
Ressa finally realized that her statements could no long hold since she continues to roam free despite one conviction and several other pending charges against her.
Keng’s withdrawal of the second libel case all but negates her contention that she is being targeted because of her anti-Administration stance, and that of her online news portal.
Perhaps, finally, Ressa has had a “come-to-Jesus” moment. Or come to Rodrigo, perhaps?
