BAGUIO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – What used to be a P160 cost for a soft broom (walis tambo) is now P800 at the Baguio City Public Market.
The sudden, 500% price increase for this popular souvenir and essential household cleaning item in the summer capital of the Philippines was brought about by yesterday’s siege on the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump protesters.
In one of the photos that went viral, a protester is seen holding up what seemed to be a broom that may have originated in Baguio. The photo greatly increased the demand for the item not only in the U.S. but even in the Philippines where it is made.

It’s the law of supply and demand that seems to be at work here.
