MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – After being overwhelmed with complaints from provincial travelers and commuters, the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) is reversing itself on its plan to ban provincial buses along the entire stretch of EDSA.
The plan would have forced passengers traveling to Baguio and other parts of Northern and Central Luzon to take city buses to Bocaue, Bulacan in order to catch provincial buses to their final destination. Those traveling to Southern Luzon will also have to take city buses to Santa Rosa, Laguna to catch provincial buses to their final destination.
Instead, MMDA says it will now ban all city buses on EDSA.
MMDA told The Adobo Chronicles that after consulting with traffic experts, it has come to the realization that it is the city buses and not the provincial buses that are causing the traffic gridlock on EDSA. “They stop anywhere and there’s more city buses than we really need,” it said.
MMDA is also considering banning private cars on EDSA. “They’re next on the chopping block,” MMDA added.
Is traffic relief finally coming to EDSA?
