MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Opposition Senators Bam Aquino and Risa Hontiveros have filed an urgent Bill in the Senate calling for a Constitutional Amendment that would totally overhaul the country’s government structure.
The duo proposed that a fourth branch of government be added to the existing three.
Currently, the three branches are the Executive, Legislative and the Judiciary. Aquino and Hontiveros want the Catholic Church to be the fourth.
”After all, the overwhelming majority of Filipinos are Catholic and that time and again, members of the Catholic heirarchy have always been actively involved in the political affairs of the country,” the Senators said.
”It will also generate more revenue for the government since all contributions to the collection basket and donations to the Catholic Church will revert to the national treasury,” they added.
In their proposed Bill, the Senators also proposed to abolish the principle of Separation of Church and State.
