MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Just minutes after the Supreme Court voted 8-6 to oust Maria Lourdes Sereno, the embattled former Chief Justice vowed to appeal her case.
It wasn’t clear which body she will file her appeal since the Supreme Court is the highest court of the land and is the final arbiter of cases.
So The Adobo Chronicles sat down with Sereno as she was packing boxes and boxes of her personal belongings at her Padre Faura office.
Sereno confirmed that she was indeed filing an appeal and is taking it to the Filipino people. We asked her what she meant by that. She replied that she and her lawyers will file an appeal first thing in the morning before the Katarungang Pambarangay (KP).
The barangays are the smallest political subdivisions in the Philippines. The KP or Barangay Justice System (BJS) is an alternative, community-based mechanism for dispute resolution of conflicts between members of the same community.
The BJS provides a venue for disputing parties to search for a mutually acceptable solution. Other members of the communities act as intermediaries, facilitating the discussion of possible solutions.
We wish Sereno and her team of attorneys all the best!
