GENEVA, Switzerland (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The ICC Prosecutor has clarified that the preliminary examination of the complaint filed against President Rodrigo Duterte for alleged crimes against humanity is not — repeat — not an investigation.
Rather, ICC said that it will investigate Philippine Congress, the Supreme Court, the Ombudsman and the Commission on Human Rights for crimes on infutility.
‘Under the Rome Statute, national jurisdictions have the primary responsibility to investigate and prosecute those responsible for international crimes,” the prosecutor said.
”Our investigation will focus on why these national institutions in the Philippines failed in their duty to respond to allegations against Duterte.”
”Yet, Senator Antonio Trillanes and Representative Gary Alejano had the nerve to come to Geneva to file an additional complaint against Duterte when they themselves are members of Congress, one of the national jurisdictions supposed to resolve national, domestic issues,” the prosecutor added.
