MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – A tearful Chito Gascon thanked Congress for the news that the 2018 budget of the Commission on Human Rights will eventually be restored in the final version of the national budget.
It will be recalled that the House of Representatives had slashed CHR’s proposed budget from P678 Million to P1,000.
Here is the full statement from Gascon:
I can finally have a full night’s sleep after hearing the great news that my 2018 budget will be restored by Congress. I am so emotional right now, and I am eternally indebted to our Congress persons for finally recognizing the role that CHR plays in ensuring human rights for every Filipino.
Now I can finally take comfort in the fact that I will have the funds to get a regular shave from my Makati City barber.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
