MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Duterte administration was criticized for firing Vice President Leni Robredo through a text message, but Malacañang has the appropriate response.
On Sunday, Robredo received a text message from Secretary to the Cabinet Leoncio “Jun” Evasco, Jr. asking her to “desist from attending all Cabinet meetings starting this Monday, December 5.”
Following receipt of the text message, Robredo announced she was resigning from her post as Housing Czar.
Duterte critics immediately derided the president for the way the message to Robredo was handled.
But Malacañang’s communications office responded by saying that the vice president was hired through a cell phone call on live televsion. “So what’s wrong with firing her via text message,” Secretary Martin Andanar said.
Welcome to the 21st century and to a high-tech Duterte administration!
