MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Filipino boxing champion and Senator Manny Pacquiao has denied online reports that he is donating $5 Million to support Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s ‘war on drugs.’
The supposed donation was reported by the fake news site, theguard1an.com, and was quickly picked up by other social media sites. (The guard1an is not the same as the British newspaper The Guardian.)
In an interview with The Adobo Chronicles, Pacquiao said he does not have that kind of money to donate to Duterte. “I’m broke at the moment,” he said, “and that’s why I have agreed to come out of retirement and fight WBO welterweight champion Jessie Vargas.”
“Maybe, if I win this upcoming fight, I may have an extra $5 Million to donate to Duterte’s drug war.”
The Pacquiao-Vargas fight is scheduled on November 5 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
