Bernie Sanders Endorses Mayor Rodrigo Duterte

imageMONTPELIER, Vermont (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – With a clenched fist symbolic of the campaign of Philippine presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte, Democratic presidential aspirant Senator Bernie Sanders today endorsed the controversial mayor of Davao City.

This is the first time in the history of the United States that a Philippine presidential candidate has received the endorsement of both American political parties.  Earlier, Republican Donald Trump gave his thumbs up for Duterte to become the next president of the United States.

In an impassioned speech delivered in his home state, Sanders likened himself to Duterte, saying that both of them have launched a “revolution” against the Establishment and against politics as usual.

In his campaign speeches, Duterte did not hold back in saying that he will establish a revolutionary government if congress gets in the way of his reforms.

The foul-mouthed, tough-talking mayor leads all national polls and is expected to emerge victorious when the Filipino people cast their votes in tomorrow’s presidential elections.

Birds of the same feather stick together, even if one bird has a slightly different feather (Trump).

TARLAC, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – During a news conference on Friday, Inoray Malawi, a poll watcher, showed a Vote Counting Machine (VCM) receipt which seemed to confirm allegations of massive electoral fraud ahead of the May 9 Philippine presidential elections.

Malawi (pictured above), said that in a dry run for the VCMs, her ballot receipt contained the name of administration standard-bearer Manuel Roxas 2nd instead of that of another presidential candidate whom she “voted” for.

Similar ballot receipt fraud allegations have been brought up during early voting by overseas Filipino voters in the Middle East.

Today, yet another incident was reported by an elementary school teacher assigned as a poll officer in Tarlac, hometown of President NoyNoy Aquino.

In this latest incident, the teacher said that during the dry run, she voted for Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.  When the ballot receipt was printed, it showed the name of Donald Trump instead of Duterte.

300,000 Duterte Supporters Left Luneta Rally Trash-Free

The estimated 300,000 supporters at last night’s Duterte Miting de Avance (final campaign rally)

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Under a Duterte presidency, the country will be trash-free.

This was demonstrated last night during the final campaign rally (miting de avance) of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.  According to the police, an estimated 300,000 supporters of the frontrunner presidential candidate attended the event at the Rizal National Park (Luneta). Supporters claimed the number was closer to half a million.

As in most massive rallies and public gatherings, the Duterte event  was expected to leave tons of trash.

But what a big surprise! After the last group of supporters had left the park and government personnel readied to clean up, they found not a single empty bottle or piece of trash.

It turned out that at the conclusion of Duterte’s speech, he warned the audience to clean up after themselves. “Kung hindi ninyo lilinisin ang basura ninyo, ipapakain ko sa inyo,” he told the crowd. (If you don’t clean up, I will let you eat your own trash).

The mayor is known to have asked violators of his city’s smoking ban to swallow their cigarette butts.

What a disciplined group this is, the Duterte supporters.

It reminds many Filipinos of a popular slogan during the Martial Law days of Ferdinand E. Marcos: “Sa ika-uunlad ng bayan, disiplina ang kailangan.” (Discipline is the key to the nation’s progress.)
