MAKATI CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte is running on a campaign promise to do to the entire Philippines what he did as mayor of Davao City: eliminate corruption and establish peace and order.

Not to be outdone, Vice President Jejomar Binay told supporters today that if elected president, he will do to the entire country what he did to Makati City when he was mayor: give all senior citizens a cake on their birthday.

With Binay’s latest pronouncement, he just won over 6 Million voters to his side.  It is estimated that six percent of the country’s 100 Million population are seniors.

Wise move, Mr. Vice President!

PHILIPPINE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES MAR ROXAS AND RODRIGO DUTERTE FACE POSSIBLE IMPRISONMENT

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) –The word war between Philippine presidential candidates Mar Roxas and Rodrigo Duterte continues unabated. First, the Davao City mayor challenged the former Interior Secretary to a slapping match. Then Roxas challenged Duterte to a fistfight. Now, Duterte is challenging Roxas to a gun battle.

It looks like a scene from a country western film, but in reality,  the back and forth jabs may end up with both candidates behind bars.

Challenging anyone to a duel is illegal in the Philippines.

Article 261 of the Revised Penal Code of the Philippines makes it a crime for any person “to challenge another  or incite another to give or accept a challenge to a duel, or scoff at or decry another publicly for having refused to accept a challenge to fight a duel.” The crime is punishable with imprisonment of four months and one day to two years and four months.

So it looks like Roxas and Duterte will be campaigning from inside their jail cells, and if one of them wins in the May 2016 presidential elections, he will be spending the first two of his six-year term as president not in Malacañang Palace but inside the National Penitentiary.

It’s more fun in the Philippines. We told you so!

U.S. THEATERS TO SET UP COAT CHECK AT ALL SCREENINGS OF STAR WARS

imageHOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – For Star Wars fanatics, it has been customary to see the film screenings at theaters dressed in their favorite characters, be it Darth Vader or Yoda.

But times have changed, thanks to increased threats of foreign and domestic terrorism.

So for those planning to see the latest series of the film (The Force Awakens) opening this weekend in theaters nationwide, be prepared to bring an extra $5 for coat check. That’s right, you will not be allowed inside the movie theater wearing your Star Wars costume.  You have to check it in at the box office.

Movie theaters across the U.S. have decided to set up coat checks as part of heightened safety and security alerts.  In order to do so, theater management had to hire additional staff to handle the coat checks, hence the need to charge an extra $5 to those coming in their Star Wars costumes.

If you are so passionate about wearing your costume, by all means, don’t leave home without it.  You just have to leave it outside the screening room.
