MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – Amid rapid-fire questioning by Senator Bongbong Marcos, the general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) admitted yesterday that he is being paid to do nothing.

The Senate hearing focused on laglag bala, the alleged extortion scheme wherein airport personnel “plant” bullets in the bags of unsuspecting airline passengers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

Jose Angel Honrado  said he has “no control” over the 22 agencies that are under his jurisdiction, adding that his main responsibility is “coordination” and ensuring a “smooth flow” of airport operations.

But he insists he has no clue over what’s been happening at NAIA, to which Marcos asked, “So, if you have no control as general manager, what is your job?”

Honrado has been the MIAA general manager since 2010. He served as security consultant of President Aquino during the May 10 elections. He served as spokesman of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and also served as aide-d-camp of the late former President Corazon Aquino.

  3. These political Appointees are receiving huge, fat salaries allowances and bonuses compare to the salaries of teachers, policemen and soldiers. These political appointees have their offices in air conditioned, carpeted from wall to wall rooms, with huge table, leather chairs and branded laptops compare to the teachers who are having their classes in a makeshift classrooms with leaking roofs when it rains, crowded, three students sitting together in one desk, dilapidated tables and plastic chairs. Teachers walk kilometers, cross rivers, climb mountains just not to miss their classes compare to these political appointees who drive the latest, top of the line SUVs and cars. And our policemen and soldiers who risk their lives to maintain the peace and keeping criminals at bay. And yet these political appointees like Honrado of NAIA don’t know what’s happening in their jurisdictions. That’s why I’m no longer surprised why our country is really facing a hard time to recover and NAIA is always included in the list of worst airports. Govt is wasting people’s money here. And how much again is the salary increase of teachers and soldiers?

    1. Salary increase of teachers and soldiers? Ha,ha,ha, “panggisa sa sariling mantika” of the government employees. Election time is nearing so in order to gain votes for “Tuwad na Daan” presidential candidate, the administration timed the salary increase of the government employees.Well, perfect timing…What an insult to the intelligence of the Filipino people!

  7. Honrado – you admit you have no control over the agencies under you, you have no knowledge of being in the loop in the cases, you have no command over your airport personnel, you have no responsibility over the cases of tanim bala. BUT DO YOU HAVE A HEART AT LEAST?? Do you even have a heart to sympathize with the victimized innocent passengers that you deny the abuses within the airport?? You are definitely related to your heartless cousin!
