NEW YORK, New York (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – ‘And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.’ With these words rapper Kanye West officially declared his candidacy to be the next leader of the free world.
West made the surprise announcement on live TV during last night’s MTV Video Music Awards where he received the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.
The segment started with a bang when West was handed his Moonman by an unexpected contemporary: reigning pop queen / one-time Kanye “victim” Taylor Swift. After a narrated montage containing clips from every part of West’s career, Swift came up on stage and talked about her West fandom and his influence on her career. She wrapped her speech by quoting West’s infamous 2009 VMA interruption — you know, the one where he rushed the stage and grabbed the mic from Swift to defend Beyoncé’s work — to proclaim that he’s had “one of the greatest careers of all time.”
Speaking to reporters after the telecast, West said, ‘If an idiot like Donald Trump can run for president, why can’t I ?’ He then thanked Barack Obama for showing the world that black men can be president in the U.S.
Kim Kardashian, who was standing beside West during the interview with reporters, was asked how she feels about being First Lady. She responded with a Sarah Palin-style wink at the reporter who asked the question.
