OBAMA TO ISSUE EXECUTIVE ORDER GRANTING AMNESTY TO UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS

imageWashington, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – Bowing to pressure from his fellow Democrats who are facing election or reelection this fall, President Obama has said that he will delay executive action aimed at reshaping the nation’s immigration system without congressional approval. Democrats are concerned that immigration executive action at this time would jeopardize their chances of winning the election. Immigration is a hot button issue among voters, Republicans and Democrats alike.

While Obama’s announcement may have frustrated immigration advocates, the president made a promise to issue an executive order right after the November elections that would grant full amnesty to the estimated 11 Million undocumented immigrants now living in the U.S.

Obama, however, said that he will issue the amnesty order only if both the Senate and House of Representatives take control and become the majority party this fall. Currently, the House is controlled by Republicans (234 – 201) and the Senate is controlled by Democrats by a slim majority (53-45, with two independents caucusing with the Democrats).
