U.S. PROTESTS MISS WORLD RESULTS

Bali, Indonesia – The United States was aiming for the “grand slam” at this year’s Miss World beauty pageant, focused on winning the crown to add to the Miss Universe title won earlier this year by Miss U.S.A. Olivia Culpo.

Olivia Jordan (yes, another Olivia), U.S.A.’s entry to this pretigious pageant held over the weekend in the Indonesian resort of Bali, made it to the top 10 contestants during Saturday’s finals, but not to the top 5.

Miss Philippines, Megan Young, an early favorite in the competition, went on to win the title, the first ever by a Filipina in Miss World’s 62-year history.  Miss France was first runner-up and Miss Ghana came in third.

Less than 24 hours after the pageant finals, the U.S. filed a formal protest with the Miss World pageant organizers, saying that Young should be credited as a U.S. entry as well.  Young was born in the United States to an American father and Filipina mother, but moved at age 10 to the Philippines where she is currentlly a model, actress and television host.  “Technically, she is also Miss U.S.A,” the protest document indicated. “Even her surname is very American. Can’t she be at least declared as a ‘dual contestant’ by virtue of her dual citizenship?” it added.

Miss World owner Julia Morley has not returned calls from The Adobo Chronicles seeking comment on the U.S. protest.

  5. I think, the best thing to do to clear out issues is to request the admin to post in this account the clippings or anything that proves regarding the protest of the Americans against Megan Young. If the protest was really filed, then that’s the time we have to express our opinions, clarifications or whatever ideas before we commit mistakes. Peace everyone!

    my reply;

    “guys didn’t you know that all US have were hiram or taken from other nationalities who in the early age like the Europeans went to the USA to escape their country’s mishaps…like the pajamas, the wall clocks, the pizzas, and a lot more things, kung tutuusin wala naman talagang sariling maituturing ang mga kano kundi un mga Indians na ancestors nila, kasi sila ang mga inabutan duon ng mga ibat ibang race na humayo sa amerika para lisanin ang kahirapan sa kaninkanilang bansa……so what do they have that they own, anyone ….?”

  11. I think, because of this protest, the dignity of Ms. USA (Olivia Jordan) was embarrassed. It shouldn’t be like that, because she did her best to represent her country it was just so unlucky for her. The people should just be proud of her for being in the Top 10. It is not also right to credit Ms. Philippines Megan Young as a candidate of America, because it is not acceptable for a country to have “TWO” representatives. And from the very beginning, Ms. Philippines Megan Young was already representing the Philippines and all of the people knew that, they should have protested earlier, before the competition started. Can’t we just accept her victory? She made it their because of the support of her fellow citizens; Filipinos. Let’s remember that this pageant is about helping other people. Let us not forget the true meaning of Miss World Pageant. Little Things. Just want to say my opinion. 🙂

  13. very funny how this Americans think they can control the world. i’m sure they wouldn’t have cared if Ms Megan didn’t win the title. The girl made a name for herself in Philippine not America. If filipinas don’t stand up for this one then is their lost coz is high time someone told the Americans they can’t make it on their own without the minors.

  14. It’s more of a compliment to Megan Young and the Filipinos that the US wants to recognize her as one of their own while respecting that she’s a Filipina. Hence, they coined the term “dual contestant” in addition to Megan’s dual citizenship.

    Come to think of it, its also a complement. The US protest actually completes her victory with such an unusual combination of recognition and protest — by accepting that she’s the most beautiful woman in the world and at the same time claiming that she has to be half American at least.

  15. I am AMERICAN, to settle this debate we need only cut her in half giving one part to America and one part to the Philippines and everyone is happy correct? I live in the Philippines as well.

  17. Even though that she is half American and half Filipino , she made her decision to be a representative of the Philippines.

  18. She went to Bali to represent the Philippines. She won in the Philippines as a representative of this country to the Miss World pageant. Not in the Miss USA pageant but the Miss Philippines. There was no reaction while the pageant was happening in Bali. Mind you, they were there for a month. There was never a reaction. Isn’t this an insult to the Miss USA candidate? The candidate they actually chose?
