U.S. PROTESTS MISS WORLD RESULTS

Bali, Indonesia – The United States was aiming for the “grand slam” at this year’s Miss World beauty pageant, focused on winning the crown to add to the Miss Universe title won earlier this year by Miss U.S.A. Olivia Culpo.

Olivia Jordan (yes, another Olivia), U.S.A.’s entry to this pretigious pageant held over the weekend in the Indonesian resort of Bali, made it to the top 10 contestants during Saturday’s finals, but not to the top 5.

Miss Philippines, Megan Young, an early favorite in the competition, went on to win the title, the first ever by a Filipina in Miss World’s 62-year history.  Miss France was first runner-up and Miss Ghana came in third.

Less than 24 hours after the pageant finals, the U.S. filed a formal protest with the Miss World pageant organizers, saying that Young should be credited as a U.S. entry as well.  Young was born in the United States to an American father and Filipina mother, but moved at age 10 to the Philippines where she is currentlly a model, actress and television host.  “Technically, she is also Miss U.S.A,” the protest document indicated. “Even her surname is very American. Can’t she be at least declared as a ‘dual contestant’ by virtue of her dual citizenship?” it added.

Miss World owner Julia Morley has not returned calls from The Adobo Chronicles seeking comment on the U.S. protest.

  1. I don’t know why the US is protesting about the Miss World result?if what their saying is that because Megan Young got an American father and her surname is very American then what about the current Miss Universe(whos is Miss USA)her surname doesn’t sound very American.Culpo is Italian!!!

  2. Just as interesting as can be, we claimed that Jessica Sanchez and all half-pinoy achievers worldwide are Filipinos when they are not Filipino citizens, only half-Pinoys in nationality. So malamang, may karapatan din naman sila mag-express ng kalahating bahagi nila…

  3. She’s American Citizen, born in America with American Dad, but she’s also Filipina non-the-less with Filipina Mothher and acclaimed dual citizen, unless otherwise she relinquish her American Citizenship. Dual Citizenship of course both sides wants to share the glory.

    1. And your point is? She chose to represent the Philippines…. She won the Pageant… Period. No one shares the Glory but us Filipinos of course.. If she wanted to “Represent” America in that pageant, then why “didn’t” she? Sigh.. all your arguments are sincerely pointless. Mabuhay!

  4. Megan Young belongs to whoever she wants to belong to. She ran as Miss Philippines, she won as Miss Philippines. NO ONE can tell her which nation to represent. Signed, a Filipina and white woman.

Can’t you also consider the comments of some here as satire?

If you take seriously the comments of those who think this article was real, then you’re no less different than them.

  6. Ms young by virtue of birth is really american and 1/2 american by blood as well. if she hasn’t dump her american citizenship ,she’s still american.sorry ,that’s reality! BUT if she has dual citizenship ,choose to and entered the contest as filipina for miss philippines, won ms philippines title, represented phil, and won miss world representing the Phil. that shd be given as honor to philippines. as dual contestant by virtue of dual citizenship?well, just wait ,they’ll come around. ms young didn’t enter ms usa and ms.phil pageants at the same time, so she was representing phil. not usa this time. she’s so pretty! that’s “when east meets west” result. Mabuhay!

  7. While it is a fact that Megan’s father is an American, it does not automatically mean that she is Miss USA for the simple reason that she did not participate at all in the Miss USA pageant. I don’t think it is fair to the candidates who joined that pageant and even more to the reigning Miss USA if Megan automatically becomes Miss USA. Fact is, Megan went to the pageant to represent the Philippines being crowned as Miss World Philippines 2013.

  10. Hindi ba pwede ang dual citizenship gaya ng sa kanya ? Ano ba ang policy pag nag-apply ka sa contest na Ito? Can somebody be kind enough to copy the words for words on how the US really made their complaint about her citizenship? Baka Na misunderstood Lang.

  11. For me we can’t claim this is a true Filipino victory, when you represent Miss Philippines this must be a pure breed Pinay. I her case ksi ung essence ng Filipino pride eh parang half lang dahil, she is half pinay and half american. we can’t deny the fact na yung physical looks na ni rerpresent nya is not true pinay beauty. unlike miriam quiambao and precious lara quigaman, and mutya datu, so kung mg rejoice tayu same thing then ng american, filipino and american pride in short. no offesense I havelittle impressed sa mga half pinoy represent internationaly

  13. #1 nobody gives a crap about beauty pageants in the real world. #2 this is obviously a hoax.. do a quick google search about protests against the 2013 Ms World .. the only protests you’d see are Islamic groups protesting against the superficial nature of this beauty pageant. I am not a Muslim, but frankly, i support them on this agenda. Just my 5 cents, you dont have to agree with me .. but you know i make a point.

    1. You’re absolutely right. We should focus more on the problems that beset the Philippines. For one, we should pay more attention on the PDAF controversy. Sees like the people have lost interest on the topic. Those beauty pageants won’t fill our stomachs nor solve our daily problems.

  14. “Even her surname is very American”. what a stupid comment, rather such with a racist connotation Ii suppose. These idiotic Americans always thought that only the Caucasians with Anglo-American sounding surnames where the real Americans. We can claim Obama as ours since his surname is way too American, rather more like Pinoy sounding lol

  15. For me, they should also give some credit the U.S.A. because she was born in U.S. and she has a dual Citizenship. Philippines should not have to be greedy.

  17. yeah we agree that Megan is a Half American and half Filipina…..so now you are claiming because of his winning the crown as a miss world….if that is bases of protesting why not Miss USA who was won in your pretigious compition, they will also claim as India is the winner of that competition….why all americans cannot accept defeats….not because his half americans you want to claim his title..his born in America but he live in Philippines for so many years…he already join startruck and his actress in local entertaiment….so what is the basis of claiming him for his winning as a Miss word….shame on you americans….his representing Philippines so the title will be in Philippines…so thats the last competiotion held in las vegas the winner is americans because maybe they make bias on jdging although the Philippine representative on that pagent is supposed to be for Philippines…..
