U.S. PROTESTS MISS WORLD RESULTS

Bali, Indonesia – The United States was aiming for the “grand slam” at this year’s Miss World beauty pageant, focused on winning the crown to add to the Miss Universe title won earlier this year by Miss U.S.A. Olivia Culpo.

Olivia Jordan (yes, another Olivia), U.S.A.’s entry to this pretigious pageant held over the weekend in the Indonesian resort of Bali, made it to the top 10 contestants during Saturday’s finals, but not to the top 5.

Miss Philippines, Megan Young, an early favorite in the competition, went on to win the title, the first ever by a Filipina in Miss World’s 62-year history.  Miss France was first runner-up and Miss Ghana came in third.

Less than 24 hours after the pageant finals, the U.S. filed a formal protest with the Miss World pageant organizers, saying that Young should be credited as a U.S. entry as well.  Young was born in the United States to an American father and Filipina mother, but moved at age 10 to the Philippines where she is currentlly a model, actress and television host.  “Technically, she is also Miss U.S.A,” the protest document indicated. “Even her surname is very American. Can’t she be at least declared as a ‘dual contestant’ by virtue of her dual citizenship?” it added.

Miss World owner Julia Morley has not returned calls from The Adobo Chronicles seeking comment on the U.S. protest.

  1. the article is correct although Megan was raised and educated in the Philippines you cannot just take away her being American through her father, let’s not be hypocrite here when a foreign artist w/ filipino blood recognized around the world the filipinos in general are getting frenzied to praised and even claimed that she/or is also pinoy and in megan young case depriving her to aknowledge her father’s homeland is like depriving her own father and that’s unacceptable so legally and no one should dispute it i know that megan is also very proud being an American and to have a dual citizenship she can also representing the US technically ( huwag ninyong ipagdamot si megan sa bansang kanyang sinilangan at kinalakihan mula ng 10 yrs. old siya) coz through bloodline she’s also an American.

  3. I remember Riza Santos, a Filipina-Canadian (?), represented Canada, and we did not make any protest. So what does the protest mean, for US to be recognised by Megan Young’s triumph? How about Rima Fakih? She won Miss USA and represented USA in Miss Universe. Did they hear anything from Lebanon such as “she was born here in Lebanon”; “even her last name doesn’t sound American” ?

  4. What a childish mentality!!! Who ever thought of all this thing, grow up!
America is not above all things all the time. As there are full-blooded Filipinos who championed America in the fields they represent and by the virtue of their American citizenship, and the Philippines never ever protest anything of this sort. Ridiculous!

  6. I wonder how their own representative feels about the protest. It’s a slap on her face as it seems like the US would rather choose her to be the official representative. Besides the protest is so stupid in that there has never been any pageant held allowing 2 representatives from the same country. Does that mean they’re throwing their representative under the bus?

  7. HA! They have the nerve to claim Megan as American while in their own country the current Miss America (who is of Indian descent) has been getting nonstop racist slurs. If ever Megan (who is half-Filipno) got the title of Miss World USA I’m pretty sure they’ll bash her too for being “not truly American”.

  11. The father of Olivia Culpo is of Italian descent and her mother is of Irish and Italian ancestry, did these countries protested and claim the title of Miss Universe? No, they did not! Because they are on their right minds.

  12. I feel sorry to US. They looked for a lot of chances for them to hold a particular title, “GRAND SLAM”. OOHHMMYY !
Yes, she was born in US but she grew-up in the Philippines and it is where she found herself, so all in all SHE IS A FILIPINA.

  13. It’s a pity that the USA is protesting the result of the Miss World 2013 result..how could you claim the crown when Ms. Megan Young is a Filipina that represented the Philippines in the Miss World 2013 beauty pageant in Bali,Indonesia?

  16. Megan competed as Miss Philippines, and won as Miss Philippines – pageant contestants with dual citizenship are common, but it’s a question of which country she chose to represent (and she did so with honor)!!! Congratulations on her well deserved win from an American pageant fan (who LOVED Janine Tugonon at Miss Universe and thought she should have won)!!!

  18. Who filed the protest in behalf of the US? This information is vital to determine whether such a “protest” was official (or just sourgraping or even made in jest). This report missed out on that pertinent piece of information.

  21. Aw, c’mon, America! You know how it works!

Your pageant is after the representative not their respective nationalities! If that were the case we should retract most of the winners for the past 62 years!
