U.S. PROTESTS MISS WORLD RESULTS

Bali, Indonesia – The United States was aiming for the “grand slam” at this year’s Miss World beauty pageant, focused on winning the crown to add to the Miss Universe title won earlier this year by Miss U.S.A. Olivia Culpo.

Olivia Jordan (yes, another Olivia), U.S.A.’s entry to this pretigious pageant held over the weekend in the Indonesian resort of Bali, made it to the top 10 contestants during Saturday’s finals, but not to the top 5.

Miss Philippines, Megan Young, an early favorite in the competition, went on to win the title, the first ever by a Filipina in Miss World’s 62-year history.  Miss France was first runner-up and Miss Ghana came in third.

Less than 24 hours after the pageant finals, the U.S. filed a formal protest with the Miss World pageant organizers, saying that Young should be credited as a U.S. entry as well.  Young was born in the United States to an American father and Filipina mother, but moved at age 10 to the Philippines where she is currentlly a model, actress and television host.  “Technically, she is also Miss U.S.A,” the protest document indicated. “Even her surname is very American. Can’t she be at least declared as a ‘dual contestant’ by virtue of her dual citizenship?” it added.

Miss World owner Julia Morley has not returned calls from The Adobo Chronicles seeking comment on the U.S. protest.

  1. None sense ang reklamong yan. Kaya nga sumali sa Miss World Philippines para irepresent ang Pinas di para irepresent ang PH at US. Tska bat ngayon lang yan nagrereklamo kung kelan nanalo?

  2. Beauty pageant is one of the sport. It just so happened this year is the Philippines beauties winners:

For Miss Universe got by USA
For Miss World got by the Philippines

  4. Please America who ever behind this protest right after the pageant, think about it. Give respects to your own contestant (Miss America) who join the pageant, it shown that you never do support in winning or loose. Cause claiming like this it was a clear proof of you thrown her like a garbage after her effort. Had shame and guilt that you choose her to represent your country (America) and obviously turn back and grab the claim for Miss Philippines World. What a pathetic action. Now i believe to Obama about American Exceptionalism but it turns to be Alarming this time, very sad to say.

  5. I think this is so trivial for the US government to be whining about. To ADOBO CHRONICLES, are you sure that there is such a protest? Baka naman gawa-gawan nyo lang yan para mapag-usapan? Kayo talagang mga journalists… tsk.tsk…

  6. You guys are not watching closely. Didn’t you hear her saying thanks to all filipinos in filipino language? That should be enough proof that she opted for her filipino citizenshipg

  7. this is garbage…. the one question that will validate this claim is…. what type of passport did megan use in travelling to indonesia…. sure enough she has philippine passport which mean she represented the philippines not usa……

  8. Yet another example of American greed. And, if I still lived there, I would be embarrassed. I can honestly say though that I’m not surprised. I will congratulate Megan for her choice to represent the country where her heart is. Go Pilipinas!

  9. Has anyone considered the fact that all this could be trumped (no pun intended) for the publicity? The Miss World pageant circuit is not as popular as Miss Universe in the U.S. and this protest is giving Miss World a lot of free publicity.

  10. Megan Young deserves the title. She represents beauty, kindness and unity among nations… She promised to be the best Miss World ever… Let her be and don’t spoil it… She expects Filipinos to support her all the way and so, we will. Stop the fight… haven’t we got enough???

  12. I’ve heard and read some stupid things in my life. And this is one of the more pathetic ones. So what if “Young” is an American, English even, name? We’ve got Spanish surnames in our country, Chinese ones too, and a whole host of others, but one does not hear the Spanish or Chinese claiming our people as theirs irregardless of where they were born and what nationality their parents have. Spain is friendly, China just wants to own the entirety of the South China Sea.
This also sounds incredibly like what a lot of Filipinos enjoy doing whenever we find someone with ties to our country doing well in another. We claim them and their success as our own. How the mighty have fallen.
The US of A, should chill. Should just sit back, relax, and know that the likelihood of a Philippine representative winning the top spot again is very very low.

    1. Sir, i don’t know if I get what you are trying to say when you said “the likelihood of a Philippine representative winning the top spot again is very very low” pls. tell me that you are just kidding because what I understand is that You are trying to underestimate our likelihood to grab the crown again. I think you’re being a racist. and that’s bad…for all i know, some crowns given to “others” were either because of politics or because of politics. at least OUR title is a hard-earned one….

and to the US trying to protest on this one…what the hell are you thinking? are you that desperate?!

    1. I’ll give them that she’s a dual. But of course I’m not gonna give them the satisfaction of gaining her as their representative. Not only is it pathetic, but also disrespectful to their own representative.
Its as if they’ve just decided to throw away the girl that didn’t win, and pine after the girl that did.

    1. Nobody “owns” Megan Young. You cant “own” a person. -__-
By law, she is considered an American first before a Filipino since she was born there. But the fact that she chose to represent the Philippines and not any other country should be respected.

  15. Yet, there’s still a Filipino blood running in her. And come to think of her long-term residency in the Philippines. Lastly, Miss World isn’t only about bragging your nationality, the essence of this pageant is to influence and inspire, to be capable of lending a helping hand to others as well as to live a life full of commitment and advocacy. No DOUBT she grabbed the title, she has it all…

  18. How embarrassed I am that US is doing this. I hope this is just laughed off. Who are the officials that are tarnishing the American image?

  19. She represented the Philippines otherwise she must have represented USA. Young carrying the Philippine Flag is Philippine entry so as USA is also represented by their candidate as their entry. End of Story.

  20. Shut up! Miss USA did not win, Miss Philippines did. The USA doesn’t need to win everything or be a part of everything. We already stick our noses into too many things around the world now. Just congratulate the new Miss World (Megan Young) and move on. There’s always next year. In the big picture of the world, it’s a small thing anyway. There are many more things that need to be concentrated on.

  22. Crazy. She can only represent one country and she chose to represent the Philippines. Didn’t it occurred to them that only one country per candidate is allowed in the pageant? They chose theirs and the Philippines has chosen one too who eventually brought home the crown. 🙂

    1. That’s your colonial mentality talking.

I doubt she would be considered beautiful by your Filipino standards if she carried a Filipina surname. And I doubt you would even notice her if she didn’t have a drop of foreign blood in her let alone be discovered by the media industry.

    2. the article is correct although Megan was raised and educated in the Philippines you cannot just take away her being American through her father, let’s not be hypocrite here when a foreign artist w/ filipino blood recognized around the world the filipinos in general are getting frenzied to praised and even claimed that she/or is also pinoy and in megan young case depriving her to aknowledge her father’s homeland is like depriving her own father and that’s unacceptable so legally and no one should dispute it i know that megan is also very proud being an American and to have a dual citizenship she can also representing the US technically ( huwag ninyong ipagdamot si megan sa bansang kanyang sinilangan at kinalakihan mula ng 10 yrs. old siya) coz through bloodline she’s also an American.

  25. Megan won the Miss World Philippines that’s why she represented the Philippines to the Miss World Pageant…what if she did not win, will USA still claim that Megan is an American?

    1. Its not as if they would wholeheartedly crown her Miss United States – just a few weeks ago, Americans displayed a “wonderful” showing of ignorance and intolerance when Nina Davuluri of New York was Crowned Miss America, why? because she is of East Indian blood, just as they express no ownership of their own president – what more of a Pinay mestiza….this country is going to implode on itself, sigh…if Megan remained here in the US, she might have become a deranged shooter or a tongue swaggering Miley instead of a well paid, well admired actress/presenter/model. Maybe they should also claim Aurora “McKinney” Pijuan???
