MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) –  With his waning popularity exacerbated by recent allegations of unexplained wealth, Vice President Jejomar Binay is turning to the country’s superstar, Miss Nora Aunor, for a much-needed boost to his quest for the presidency.

Binay remains the frontrunner in national polls on who should succeed President NoyNoy Aquino after the latter’s term expires in 2016.  However, in recent weeks, Senator Grace Poe has steadily climbed in the polls, inching closer to Binay. Too close for comfort.

Wanting to capitalize on the popularity of Aunor, Binay promised that if the multi-awarded acrtress endorsed his candidacy for president, he would name Aunor as a national artist during his first year as head of state. (Aquino had previously snubbed Aunor by refusing to name her as national artist despite strong recommendations by the national nominating committee.)

It is too late for Binay: Aunor has just endorsed Senator Poe as her choice for president in the 2016 elections.

Political analysts have said that with Aunor’s endorsement, Poe will likely overcome Binay’s lead in the polls as early as next week.

Some have even suggested that a Poe might consider choosing Aunor as her vice presidential running mate.

PHILIPPINES’ VP BINAY SAYS POTENTIAL PRESIDENTAL RIVAL CANDIDATE SENATOR POE HAS NO EXPERIENCE IN CORRUPTION

MANILA, Philippines ( The Adobo Chronicles ) – Despite a court-ordered freeze on his bank accounts, which seems to bolster the corruption allegations against him, Vice President Jejomar Binay on Sunday said he would still run for president in 2016 because it would be risky to entrust the Philippines to leaders “without experience and competence.”

Binay was obviously referring to Senator Grace Poe whose popularity with voters has put her at the head of the Aquino administration’s search for a presidential candidate in next year’s elections.

President Aquino and Poe met two weeks ago to discuss the senator’s role in the elections. On Saturday, Poe, who topped the 2013 senatorial election, said she was looking up to the President for guidance in her role in shaping the future of the Philippines.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Binay said he wanted to “bring experience and competence” to the national leadership.

Binay told The Adobo Chronicles  that the female senator is not fit to be president because “she has no experience in graft and corruption, money laundering, illegal transactions and other qualifications presidential hopefuls should have.” “The people’s choice for the next president is clear; Binay is the guy,” he added.

MAR ROXAS: ‘I WAS BETRAYED BY PRESIDENT AQUINO’

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) –  Initially one of the leading contenders in the 2010 Philippine presidential elections, now Secretary of Interior and Local Governments Mar Roxas slid down to become a vice-presidential candidate in order to make way for  then Senator NoyNoy Aquino. Roxas was was defeated by Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay by the narrowest margin in the history of the Fifth Republic.

In the last 5 years, Roxas has been one of Aquino’s staunchest supporters and apologists, often sacrificing his own reputation and integrity just to make Aquino look good in the eyes of the Filipino people.

Now, Aquino is reportedly mulling on courting Senators Grace Poe and Francis Escudero to run as a tandem under the Liberal Party  in the 2016 presidential elections, as the ratings of presumptive standard bearer Roxas fail to improve.

Binay is the opposition party’s standard bearer.

Upon hearing of Aquino’s plan for the party, Roxas screamed an expletive, the same one that he was heard saying at a campaign rally in 2010. (The Adobo Chronicles is a family-oriented news site, so we can’t print the expletive.)

“I have been betrayed,” Roxas said. “After all that I’ve done for Aquino, this is what I get,” he added. A very religious man, Roxas likened himself to Jesus being betrayed by Judas.

In his frustration, Roxas told reporters that if he is not annointed as the party’s standard bearer, he will immediately resign as Local Governments secretary and work for Binay’s political campaign. “Let’s see who will have the last laugh,” Roxas said.
