NEW POLL SHOWS A STATISTICAL FOUR-WAY TIE AMONG CANDIDATES FOR PHILIPPINE PRESIDENT

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles®) – It is unprecedented in the history of the Philippines, and perhaps even in the world: a population and electorate divided equally four ways.

We are referring to a new national poll soon to be released by the Social Weather Systems (SWS), the Philippines’ leading pollster and research firm.

In a survey of likely Filipino voters in the upcoming 2016 presidential elections, the leading candidates each garnered an approval rating of 25% of all respondents, with no room for a margin of error.

Of the four candidates included in the poll, three — Senator Grace Poe, Vice President Jojo Binay and former Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas —  have officially declared their candidacy for president, while one, Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, is yet to declare (although he has repeatedly denied that he intends to run).

However, in a separate scenario where only the three declared candidates will vie for the presidency, each received  33%, with 1% of respondents still undecided.

In either scenario, it is a statistical tie, paving the way for the most interesting and hotly-contested Philippine presidential elections ever.

BREAKING NEWS: DUTERTE IS RUNNING!

DAVAO CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles® ) – Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, known for his iron-fist kind of management, has repeatedly said that he was not interested in running for president of the Philippines in the 2016 elections.

But at 4pm on Monday, September 7 (September 6 U.S. time), Duterte is scheduled to make a very important announcement.  Neithier the mayor nor his closest aides are saying what the announcement is going to be.

However, The Adobo Chronicles® has learned from a very reliable source that Duterte will announce that he is running.

Running away from running for president, that is.

PHILIPPINE CONGRESS REJECTS SECOND TERM FOR PRESIDENT AQUINO

Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles®) – A bi-partisan majority of members of the Philippines’ House of Representatives and Senate have rejected a second term for President NoyNoyAquino, or his successors.

The constitution limits the presidential term to six years with no re-election.

There has been a lot of speculation that the Aquino camp was trying to maneuver a possible second term for the president after he completes his six years in office in 2016.

The legislators, lead by Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago, all but doused the hope for Aquino to run for re-election.

Santiago said  that any proposal to amend the constitution to allow a second presidential term will not get the required number of votes in Congress in order for it to pass.

The feisty senator added that there is a clear consensus among the bi-partisan legislators that the only way they will agree to two terms is for the president to serve one, six-year term in Malacanang (the presidential palace), and a second indefinite term in prison.

Former President Joseph Estrada, now city mayor of Manila, served a prison term for corruption before he was pardoned by his successor, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, who herself, is now under hospital arrest for similar charges.
