MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles ) – The ruling Liberal Party candidate for vice president, Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo, has admitted that the Aquino administration has failed to distribute land to farmers under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.

The admission comes weeks after a federation of agricultural workers accused President NoyNoy Aquino’s family of using a bogus sale of assets to retain ownership and control of the 6,453-hectare Hacienda Luisita.

Robredo, a member of the House committee on agrarian reform, said that many tracts of land intended for distribution were not transferred to the control of farmer-beneficiaries.

This has angered President Aquino and his anointed successor, Mar Roxas.  Both expressed regret for choosing  the congresswoman to be the ruling party’s VP candidate.

“We  didn’t have a clue that she would “bite the hand that feeds her,” Aquino said, adding that she shouldn’t be making statements that would put the administration in a bad light.

The Aquino administration has been touting its anti-corruption mantra of “daang matuwid” (straight path) and Robredo’s statements were in direct contradiction to said mantra.

Luckily for Robredo and the Filipino electorate, Philippine electoral rules allow voters to vote for president and vice president who may or may not belong to the same political party, so potentially, Roberedo could be elected VP but not Roxas, the administration’s presidential standard bearer.

MAR ROXAS ANNOUNCES HIS VP RUNNING MATE, AND IT IS NOT LENI ROBREDO

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – The efforts by Liberal Party presidential standard bearer Mar Roxas to convince Leni Robredo to run as his vice president have all but failed.

The widow of former Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo was seriously considering Roxas’ offer, but the embarrassing event at a Liberal Party gathering in Laguna province this week prompted Leni to decline the offer.

The Laguna event featured scantilly clad women twerking, bending and simulating  sex acts. It has seriously tarnished the Party’s and the Aquino administration’s anti-corruption mantra of “matuwid na daan” (straight path). Political opponents are now calling the mantra ” tuwad na daan” (bended path).

After being informed of Robredo’s final decision not to run as VP, Roxas today announced his VP running mate, the extremely popular Heneral Luna.

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles®) – For centuries, the Philippines has been a society known for its deeply-ingrained machismo, where men rule and women are relegated to the sidelines.

Not any more.

The Philippines is among the few countries where women are, or have been, heads of state.  In fact, there had been two women Philippine presidents — the late Cory Aquino and Gloria Macapagal Arroyo (who remains in hospital arrest).

Fast forward to 2016.

It is predicted that a woman will be elected president,  as well as vice president!

The Philippines’ unique electoral process allows voters to vote across party lines.  This means they could vote for the presidential candidate of one party and for the vice presidential bet of another.

In fact, incumbent President NoyNoy Aquino and Vice President Jejomar Binay are from opposing political parties.

One woman candidate, Senator Grace Poe, has so far declared her candidacy for president while another, Leni Robredo, is about to named vice presidential candidate for an opposing party.  Both are popular and have done extremely well in national polls.

The Philippine Supreme Court is already headed by a woman chief justice – Maria Lourdes Sereno.

It is further predicted that the next Senate president and next Speaker of the House will both be women.  Among the candidates are Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago and Representative Imelda Romualdez Marcos, respectively.

So the possibility of all three branches of government being ruled by women is just around the corner.  When it happens, the Philippines will be known not for the Iron Lady, but its Butterfly (sleeves) ladies!

Meanwhile, male politicians are gearing up to be part of Gilas, the Philippines’ national basketball team — either as players or members of the coaching team, their best chance of maintaining some semblance of machismo.
