Battle of the Pizzas: Hotdog Vs. Lumpia

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles) –  It’s supposed to be the big day on Thursday  for Pizza Hut : the official launching of its new  pizza with hotdog-stuffed crust, a concoction that Italian chefs and bakers would almost be embarrassed to even think about.

The usually serious Washington Post  took time out from its political news coverage to video tape a taste test of the new product among its newsroom staff.

But then, on the eve of the launch, Pizza Hut encountered an unexpectected competition from a little known Filipino pizza joint  (MyBayKitchen.com) in the Silicon Valley, which came up with its more delicious and healthy alternative — pizza with lumpia (Filipino egg roll).

The Pizza Hut version uses mustard for its sauce on the side while the Filipino version uses banana ketchup.

The two pizzas look almost exactly alike, except that the Filipino pizza does not contain any pepperoni, just  plain garlic, spinach and cheese combo, flanked with half slices of the Filipino lumpiang Shanghai, a  superstar in the cuisine of this island nation of 100 Million people.

The Filipino concoction caught the eye of  frozen pizza giant Digiorno which is reportedly in negotiations with the Filipino  pizza joint to patent , distribute and sell the amazing and appetizing  version of the otherwise boring Italian pizza.

Washington Post Misses Wednesday Edition, Blames Pizza Hut

imageWASHINGTON, D.C. (The Adobo Chronicles) – If you’re wondering why your favorite newspaper rack for The Washington Post is empty today, wonder no more. The country’s leading print newspaper does not have a Wednesday edition.

Yesterday, in the spirit of public service, newsroom staff of the Post participated in a taste test of the new Pizza Hut hot dog-stuffed crust. “We’re doing the tasting so that you don’t have to,” the staff said in a recorded video of the taste test.

Staff reaction to the new pizza which will officially launch Thursday  was, at best, lukewarm. Many found the pepperoni and hot dog combination unnecessary and far from appetizing.image

Now back to why there is no Wednesday edition of the Post this week. All staff that participated in the Pizza Hut taste test left the newsroom early Tuesday. They all suffered from indigestion.

But not to worry, you can still read the paper’s online edition.

As for the hot dog pizza? Well, you just need to make your own judgment Thursday.

And oh, don’t forget the mustard.
