BEST PICTURE NOMINEE ‘BOYHOOD’ WILL GET 12 MINUTES DURING OSCAR NIGHT

Boyhood_filmHOLLYWOOD, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – It’s that time of year when the best of the best are honored in glittering ceremonies during Hollywood’s biggest night — the Oscars.

To be held February 22 at the Dolby Theater, the 87th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences annual awards will feature 8 of last year’s best  films vying for the top prize.

As per tradition, each of the nominated films will be featured in a one-minute clip throughout the evening’s program.  This year, there will be one exception.

One of the Best Picture nominees, “Boyhood” will be afforded a full 12 minutes of film clip.

The coming-of-age dramatic film written and directed by Richard Linklater depicts the adolescence of a young boy in Texas growing up with divorced parents.  It stars Patricia Arquette, Ellar Coltrane, Lorelei Linklater and Ethan Hawke.

The film was shot intermittently over the course of a 12-year period, from 2002 to 2014.

The Academy board of directors decided to give justice to the nominated film by allowing one minute per year that it was in the making.

Sounds fair.

OPRAH WINFREY FORMS AMERICAN FILM ACADEMY

imageChicago, Illinois – When Oprah cries, everybody cries; when Oprah gets pissed, you better watch out.

The most influential woman in the world – not to mention one of the richest – was perturbed at the fact that the film she starred in, Lee Daniels’ The Butler was snubbed by both the Golden Globes and the Oscars. When the film was released earlier this year, critics thought that Winfrey’s performance as the wife of the White House butler played by Forest Whitaker, was a shoo-in for a Best Actress nomination.

Ms. Winfrey not only has her own magazine but her own television network as well (Oprah Winfrey Network or OWN).

Today, she announced that she is forming her own American Film Academy which will function just like the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences which puts up the annual Oscar Awards.

The new academy’s awards will be called the Oprahs.

As of press time, it wasn’t known how many of the current Oscar voting members will defect to Oprah’s new academy.
