The Adobo Chronicles’ Great Presidential-VP Mix-Up Poll: Who Would You Vote For?

imageMANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Every Filipino knows that he or she doesn’t have to vote for the vice presidential running mate of presidential candidates.  Philippine presidential elections are like chop suey, you can mix and match.  In fact, incumbent Vice President Jejomar Binay does not belong to the same Liberal Party of President NoyNoy Aquino.

So, in the spirit of chop suey, we are conducting a national poll never conducted before by any polling organization.  We’re calling it the ‘Great Presidential-VPD Mix-Up Poll.’

Here are the rules:  we’ve chosen to mix and match the presidential and vice presidential candidates across party lines; all you have to do is vote for your favorite pairing. No substitutions, please!

Let the games begin!

Philippine Supreme Court Expected Rule In Favor Of Senator Grace Poe, Thanks To Senator Bongbong Marcos

Siblings? Poe, left, and Marcos

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Only one thing remains to be a hindrance to Senator Grace Poe being elected next president of the Philippines: the disqualification case against her now pending with the Supreme Court.

The case revolves around the issue of Poe not being a natural-born citizen as required of all candidates for president.  Poe, a foundling, has not established her natural-born status because the citizenship of her biological parents is unknown.  She was adopted by film actors Fernando Poe, Jr., and Susan Roces.

The Adobo Chronicles  has learned that the Supreme Court is about to issue its decision on the landmark case, and it would be in favor of Poe, thanks to vice presidential candidate, Senator Bongbong Marcos.

There is an urban legend that claims Poe is an illegitimate child of Bongbong’s father, the late Ferdinand E. Marcos with Susan’s sister, Rosemarie Sonora.

Well, Bongbong has openly acknowledged that Poe is his sister, and just recently he declared that he was “standing by” his statement. That was good enough for the Supreme Court to rule that Poe is indeed a natural-born citizen.

The big question now is, if Poe is elected president and Marcos is elected vice president, wouldn’t that constitute nepotism and a conflict of interest?

That could be the next case to be brought before the Supreme Court.

Philippines’ Commission On Elections Bars Broadcaster Korina Sanchez From Being First Lady

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The Commission on Elections (COMELEC), sitting en banc, has disqualified broadcaster Korina Sanchez from becoming First Lady. Sanchez, wife of presidential candidate and former Interior Secretaryi Mar Roxas, was found guilty of vote-buying and violation of election campaign rules.

Sanchez joined officials of the Department of Agriculture (DA) on stage during the distribution of some P611-million worth of agriculture funds and equipment in Tagum City on Saturday, according to the Inquirer. Sanchez also joined similar DA events in Kidapawan City, North Cotabato and Mexico, Pampanga.

Sanchez was found guilty on two counts:

1. Vote-buying with funds that belonged to the national government, and

2. Using government funds and resources to campaign for her husband.

Because Roxas was not present during said events, the COMELEC could not technically charge him for violation of election laws.  However, the electoral body said that it is within its prerogative to disqualify Sanchez from becoming First Lady should Roxas win the presidential elections in May.

With the COMELEC  ruling (assunming Roxas becomes president), this will be the second time in a row that there will be no First Lady in Malacañang, the presidential palace.  Sanchez will have to live in their private residence. (President Aquino, a bachelor, didn’t have a First Lady to house in Malacañang.)
