IN THE PHILIPPINES, THOUSANDS ALREADY LINING UP FOR THE iPHONE 6

imageMakati City, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles) – It hasn’t been quite 48 hours since Apple unveiled the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but already, thousands of Filipinos are lining up to be among the first to own this state-of-the-art mobile phone.

Online orders won’t commence until one minute past midnight on Friday, September 12 while Apple stores won’t strart selling the new phones until September 19.

Two authorized Apple dealers along Ayala Avenue in Makati City have announced that they will have the new phones in stock by September 20. Incidentally, Makati City has recently been named ‘Selfie Capital of the World,’ a title that Filipinos take great pride in.

As of six o’clock this morning, Filipinos have lined up, four-person deep, outside the Apple stores. The lines have extended for miles and miles, all the way to the MRT (Metro Manila’s light railway system) station in Quezon City. To get to the Apple stores in Makati from Quezon City, commuters have to take the MRT train at the Northernmost EDSA (Epifanio de los Santos Avenue) station in Quezon City. It’s about 13 kilometers or approximately 8 miles, not including the distance between the Makati EDSA MRT station and the Apple Stores on Ayala Avenue.

The people lining up to buy the new iPhones have only tripled the already long lines of daily commuters trying to get to work or school via the MRT.

It’s really more fun in the Philippines.

APPLE CEO TIM COOK TO KEYNOTE CONVENTION OF MUGGERS AND SNATCHERS

Las Vegas, Nevada (The Adobo Chronicles) – Apple CEO Tim Cook has been invited to be the keynote speaker for the annual convention of the International Association of Muggers and Snatchers (IAMS) to be held at Mandalay Bay Hotel in La Vegas, Nevada, from October 3-4, 2014.

With the theme “Strategies for the Future,” some 2,000 attendees will discuss new ways to deal with emerging wearable technology, including the newly unveiled Apple Watch.

In the last decade, the mugging and snatching industry has seen a disappointing decline ever since mobile phones became popular, eliminating the need for people to wear wrist watches. Wrist watch snatching was one of the top income-generating activities for IAMS members.  Since then, muggers and snatchers have switched to snatching mobile phones but people have grown smarter in protecting their hand-held devices against thieves.

IAMS president Herminegildo Nakaw who is from the Philippines, said that the association’s membership were absolutely thrilled and encouraged upon hearing of the new Apple Watch which would retail at about $349. “We’re back in business,” Nakaw said, “and we look forward to hearing from Tim Cook on more details of the Apple Watch so that we can come up with more effective mugging and snatching strategies.”

It is estimated that the mugging and snatching industry generates close to $400 Billion annually.

Cupertino, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Today was the big day that many Apple fans have been waiting for — the unveiling of the new iPhone 6 and the wearable watch.

In his keynote speech today in the unveiling of Apple’s newest products, CEO Tim Cook surprised many by announcing not one, but two new iPhones — the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus.

As earlier reported by The Adobo Chronicles,  the new iPhones are thinner, lighter, longer-lasting and have bigger screens.  They also come pre-installed with the new app Apple pay which would allow users to pay retailers with their mobile device.

But the huge crowd that gathered at the Apple’s Cupertino headquarters was terribly disappointed when Cook unveiled the long-awaited wearable watch.  Many were expecting it to be called iWatch, but Apple named it Apple Watch instead. It will be available in early to mid-2015.  It will also come pre-installed with Apple pay.

“It is not at all what I expected.  I am very frustrated,” said one Apple fan who has bought every single new Apple product that came out since the first iPhone.” “While I give two thumbs up for the new iPhones, I  give the Apple Watch a total thumbs down,”
he said.

Here is the Apple Watch unveiled today:
