WARDROBE MALFUNCTION: PHILIPPINES AT WAR WITH CHINA?

SINGAPORE (The Adobo Chronicles ) – Peace-loving Filipinos always know how to display or wear the Philippine flag. Or do they?

At the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore, Filipino track and field athletes, including gold medalists Eric Shaun Cray and Kayla Richardson,  were photographed wearing uniforms with an inverted Philippine flag.

The blue stripe is always on top and the red stripe on the bottom — unless the Philippines has declared, or is at war, with another country. The athletes’ uniforms had the red stripe on top.

Athletics chief Philip Juico  explained later that it was just a mistake by the supplier.

Unconfirmed reports say that the uniforms were made in China.

China and the Philippines are currently involved in an escalating territorial dispute over oil-rich islands in the South China Sea, known as the Spratly islands.

Hmmmm.

NBA FINALS: TWO FILIPINOS ARE GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS’ LUCKY CHARM

OAKLAND, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – Every time Filipina singer Nayah Damasen sings the Star-spangled Banner at a basketball game featuring the Golden State Warriors, the California NBA team wins, as they did in Game #1 of the 2015 NBA finals held last night.

Damasen, 10, has been singing the U.S. national anthem for the Warriors’ games since age 5. The team considers her its ‘lucky charm.’

Well, it turns out this season saw not just one, but two lucky charms for the Warriors — both Filipinos.

The other charm is no other than Filipino boxing champion Manny Pacquiao, who last year, joined the Warriors in a practice session while they trained for this year’s NBA season.  Since then, things have been turning up roses for the Warriors, whose last stint in an NBA finals was in 1975, when they won the championship.

With two lucky charms, hopes are high that the Warriors will be this year’s NBA champions.

Hey, they might even ask both Damasen and Pacquiao (who himself is a recording artist) to sing the national anthem as a duet for one of the six (or three) remaining finals games against the Cleveland .

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles) – For the first time in 40 years, the Golden State Warriors are headed to the NBA finals, after defeating the Houston Rockets, 104-90, at last night’s Western Conference Championship series.

The California team faces the Cleveland Cavaliers in a best-of-7 series finals starting June 4 at Golden State’s Oracle Arena.

The Warriors took the occasion of their victory to announce that Manny Pacquiao will be drafted in the fall, ending months of speculation about the champion Filipino boxer joining the California NBA team.

Pacquiao was seen in practice sessions with the Warriors late last year in San Francisco.

Pacquiao, aside from being a boxer and elected congressman in the Philippines, is a playing coach of the Kia Carnival, a professional team in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Sources close to Pacquiao said that the Filipino boxer has done a lot of soul searching after his welterweight loss to Floyd Mayweather, and is now open to retiring from boxing.  Pacquiao is also eyeing the presidency of the Philippines, but at age 36, is disqualified from running as a candidate in 2016.

The Warriors said that they could have drafted Pacquiao earlier but his recent surgery due to a shoulder injury  has prevented the boxer from the team’s training sessions.

Pacquiao is turning out to be a man for all seasons and all major sports.
