Jun Polistico Thanks Sal Panelo For Singing His Song!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – While singer/actress Sharon Cuneta took to her social media account to protest Sal Panelo’s sining of ”Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas,” Jun Polistico is thanking the senatorial candidate.

Cuneta, the wife of vice presidential aspirant Senator Kiko Pangilinan protested Panelo’s rendition of ”her song” during a campaign event.

Truth be told, the hit song composed by the late Willy Cruz is NOT Cuneta’s song. It was first recorded and released by Viva Records in 1980. Cuneta later covered the song in 1986 as part of a film project.

The Adobo Chronicles asked Polistico for his reaction to Cuneta’s reaction. He said he is very thankful to Panelo for reviving the song and is hoping that his original recording will resurface as No. 1 again in the music charts.

All’s well that ends well!

Here’e Polistico’s original version:

Side By Side: ”Do You Hear The People Sing” Tagalog Versions

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Most are familiar with the hit song ”Do You Hear The People Sing” from “Les Miserables.” The musical was based on Victor Hugo’s book published in 1862. It is a tale of woe and angst, love, loss and redemption set in France in the early 1800s against a backdrop of revolutionary fervour. The name Les Misèrables means The Unfortunate Ones or The Wretched.

Well, the song has been adapted as a ”protest song” during the onset of Rodrigo Duterte’s Philippine presidency. The Tagalog version is titled ”Di Nyo Ba Naririnig?” (Don’t you hear?)

A new Tagalog version has emerged, this time in support of the Duterte legacy and in anticipation of continued and greater progress under a Bongbong Marcos-Sara Duterte leadership after they are elected president and vice president in May, 2022.

The original protest song, particularly that recorded by ABS-CBN artists and talents, has garnered some 269K views on YouTube, while the new version has already recorded 619K views, considering that it has gone public in just the last month and a half.

Composer And National Artist Ryan Cayabyab Alive And Kicking!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – It was like a shockwave. Fans and followers of National Artist Ryan Cayabyab couldn’t believe their eyes when what seemed like an obituary for the Filipino composer extraordinaire flashed on their Facebook page. ”No, he couldn’t pass so soon,” exclaimed one netizen.

Well, it turned out Cayabyab is still alive and kicking.

The culprit was an unnamed graphic designer, and possibly promoter, who was super excited to announce an upcoming tribute to lost souls. And there he was, Cayabyab, pictured in the center of the ”obituary” that surprised fans and critics. It was only upon closer and more critical reading of the announcement that people realized the composer was to be the host of the tribute, not the subject of it.

So, keep calm. Cayabyab is still around and we all look forward to more brilliant compositions in the days, months and years to come.
