Fact-Checking Journalists-Turned-Intrigue Mongers

In a recent post, Manila Times columnist Rigoberto Tiglao pondered the solemn expressions of President Bongbong Marcos and others at an inauguration event, questioning why they appeared “so forlorn.”

However, a video surfaced providing a clear answer – it was during a prayer.

In an era of fact-checking, one might wonder why Tiglao missed this crucial detail before diving into intrigue. Perhaps investigative journalism has taken an unexpected turn, with reporters like Tiglao becoming more skilled in creating mysteries than solving them.

The trend seems contagious, spreading to the likes of Jay Sonza and Krizette Laureta Chu, who also excel at concocting speculative narratives.

It appears that some journalists have traded their magnifying glasses for crystal balls, transforming into intrigue-mongers instead of delivering unbiased reporting.

Maybe it’s time for a refresher course in journalism ethics, where the focus is on uncovering facts rather than weaving tantalizing tales of intrigue. After all, a prayerful frown is no match for the bewilderment induced by journalists turned storytellers.

SMNI: Extensions, Extensions

Ah, the Filipino’s love affair with deadlines – a romance that puts Shakespearean tragedies to shame. From tax filings resembling epic sagas to SIM card registrations that rival Greek myths, the nation’s commitment to punctuality is as steadfast as a house of cards in a typhoon. The jeepney modernization program, akin to a soap opera plot twist, keeps extending its own expiration date like a never-ending telenovela.

Now, enter the suspended news network SMNI, a phoenix rising from the ashes of MTRCB’s 15-day timeout for unruly programs. But lo and behold! The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) steps in with a 30-day penalty for broadcast franchise violations. Will this be the final act, or shall we brace ourselves for yet another sequel in the saga of extensions? One can’t help but wonder if time itself bows to the whims of Filipino deadlines, bending and stretching like a cosmic elastic band. Stay tuned, folks – just make sure your television is off, courtesy of another timely extension.

“Karambola sa DWIZ” Reinvents Itself!

Rumors are swirling about the alleged firing of Atty. Trixie Cruz-Angeles from the DWIZ program “Karambola.”

While Atty. Trixie insisted she’s just on a month-long vacation, the show’s new banner tells a different tale. The lone female host is conspicuously absent from the updated promotional materials, and the show has undergone a rebranding to better reflect its content and host opinions.

Say goodbye to “Karambola” and hello to “KARAMBOLA-BOLA sa DWIZ.”

The revamped title seems more fitting, as sources suggest that the discussions have taken a more theatrical turn, resembling less of a legal discourse and more of a circus performance.

Perhaps the absence of Atty. Trixie is an attempt to balance the scales of rationality, or maybe it’s just an elaborate magic trick to make the audience believe the show is still worth tuning in. Either way, it looks like DWIZ is embracing the “bola” with open arms.
