Commentary: Barangay and SK Elections, A Low-Tech Friendster?

Ah, the Barangay and SK elections are upon us once again, a true spectacle of democratic extravagance! With nearly 400,000 positions up for grabs and a staggering bill of P5 billion, it’s clear that our local politics is a high-stakes game of thrones.

But one must wonder, what’s the siren call for these positions, given the meager salaries (P1K a month for Barangay captains and P600 a month for Kagawads)?

Is it the dream of unlocking that mystical treasury chest at the Department of the Interior and Local Government, or perhaps the allure of congressional pork barrel?

Sure, there are commendable barangays out there, but what about the others? Are they just making their way through the motions while savoring the scent of power and influence?

These questions may never be answered, but as the campaign period kicks off, brace yourselves for a parade of newfound “friends” and neighbors, eager to shake hands, share promises, and seize the keys to the kingdom. After all, in politics, it’s not about the money; it’s about the thrill of the chase, the taste of authority, and the sweet symphony of campaign jingles echoing through our streets.

And how do these Barangay positions compare to the Partylists? Oh, let’s talk about it in a future forum!

EDSA-Kamuning’s Public Tombstones For Indigent Families (Video)

The tombstone lane dividers of EDSA-Kamuning

QUEZON CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Quezon City Bureau) – In a remarkable display of efficiency and ingenuity, the Quezon City Government, in collaboration with the Metropolitan Development Authority (MMDA), has achieved the seemingly impossible. They’ve miraculously converted road lane dividers along a substantial stretch of EDSA-Kamuning into tombstones with planters, all in record time!

This bold endeavor, touted as a solution to the perpetual traffic woes of Metro Manila’s main thoroughfare, is nothing short of visionary. By allowing drivers to peacefully contemplate their existence while stuck in traffic, the city aims to reduce congestion and blood pressure levels simultaneously. But that’s not all! The innovative tombstones also serve as a thoughtful way to assist indigent QC residents who couldn’t afford traditional tombstones for their departed loved ones.

The timing couldn’t be more perfect, with this project being delivered just in time for UNDAS, the annual commemoration of All Souls’ Day and All Saints’ Day in the Philippines. Now, traffic mayhem and eternal rest can finally go hand in hand. Truly a milestone in urban planning!

Commonwealth Avenue Closure: Barking At The Wrong Tree!

Ah, the comedic brilliance of our law enforcement! Apparently, they’ve unearthed a grave threat to society – a motorist who dared to document his encounter with traffic enforcers on Commonwealth Avenue. Forget the fact that they closed down the road for the mere rumor of VP Sara Duterte’s presence. The real crime here? Capturing it on camera!

It seems the police have a unique talent for blaming messengers instead of addressing the underlying absurdity. Evidently, the motorist’s crime was not fabricating the story – that’s the police’s prerogative – but rather, exposing it. Perhaps they missed the memo on free speech and the right to challenge those in power. Alas, in this theatrical world, satire might be the last line of defense.
