People Become Creative Amid Short Supply Of Face Masks

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – As expected, people are rushing to procure their disposable surgical and N95 face masks to protect themselves from the coronavirus.  Unfortunately, the masks are in short supply, or are sold-out in many retail outlets.

But it takes an epidemic to  bring out the creativity of the homo sapiens.

All over the world, people are turning to alternatives for the face mask — brown paper bags, jock straps, remnants of their last maquerade ball, even condoms!

Anything that works —- or doesn’t!

Philippines To Begin Exporting Designer Balut

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – While some countries like France, Italy and Spain are known for their gourmet cuisine, the Philippines is leading the way in exporting its indigenous cuisine, the designer way — starting with balut.

Balut are boiled, fertilized duck eggs that contain not only a yolk but also a semi- developed duck embryo.

While many enjoy this delicacy, others cringe even with just the idea of consuming balut.

Well, that’s about to change.

Jollibee, the country’s leading fast-food chain which has established franchises the world over, has announced that starting in February, it will start exporting designer versions of this lowly Filipino street food.  It will also serve  it as part of their late afternoona and evening menu.

A spokesperson for Jollibee told The Adobo Chronicles that the company hopes that by adding a designer feel to balut, more people will be enticed to try and continue to enjoy this unique Filipino delicacy.

Maria Ressa Nominated For Best Actress At Sundance Film Festival

PARK CITY, UTAH (The Adobo Chronicles, Hollywood Bureau) – Maria Ressa could bring honor to the Philippines if she wins the Best Actress Award at the ongoing Sundance Film Festival.

The Rappler CEO stars and was nominated in a new film titled, “We Will Hold The Line,” which chronicles her own journey from being a “war correspondent” to being an accused in several criminal cases in the Philippines, ranging from tax evasion to cyber libel.

Film Festival jurors, who spoke to The Adobo Chronicles — on condition of anonymty — said they were impressed by Ressa’s portrayal of  a journalist fighting for press freedom amid what she says is a conscious attempt by the Philippine government to silence her by weaponizing the law to shut her up.

Best of luck, Ms. Ressa! Bring home the bacon — minus ASF!
