A New Amsterdam Emerges In Ukraine!

KHERSON, Ukraine (The Adobo Chroniclers, Moscow Bureau) – The impact of the destruction of Ukraine’s Nova Kakhovka is now just beginning to surface above the flooding.

As expected critics and some in the news media were quick to pin the blame on Russia — that it blew it up, although others immediately corrected themselves saying that the dam broke.

The impact could be hugely environmental, agricultural, economic and yes, war-enhancing.

But resilient Ukrainians see the light at the end of the tunnel. It could mean a spike in their country’s image as a tourist/travel destination, particularly the port city of Kherson.

Imagine an entire city sitting above water! What a sight! Mover over, Maldives

Think about Ukraine as the new Amsterdam! Difference is, Amsterdam was built AROUND a dam. In Kerson, a dam built a new city!

EDCA Expansion? Sen. Marcos Questions U.S. Request On Afghan Refugees!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Senator Imee Marcos, chairperson of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, asked why the U.S. government wanted to house Afghans in the Philippines instead of the American mainland or countries closer to Afghanistan.

In Senate Resolution 651, filed Thursday, she called for an inquiry into the real intention behind the U.S. request since no data have been made public on the said Afghans’ status as legitimate refugees or employees of the U.S. government or American companies.

Is the U.S. request a precursor to the further expansion of the Enhanced Defense Cooperative Agreement (EDCA) between the Philippines and America?

Will EDCA evolve into an Enhanced Displacement of Citizens of Afghanistan, using the Philippines as dumping ground for U.S.-produced refugees?

Or is the U.S. simply moving Afghan refugees from one war zone to another (from Afghanistan to Maria’s war zone, the Philippines)?

ICC Judge Suspended, Thanks To Rappler’s Lian Buan!

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (The Adobo Chronicles, Berlin Bureau) – Every law practitioner around the world knows that pending investigations or court cases may not be discussed in public. It is called a gag order.

And more so if you are a judge of the International Criminal Court investigating a former Philippine president for alleged crimes against humanity.

Well, thanks to Rappler reporter (on sabbatical) Lian Buan, ICC Judge Solomy Balungi Bossa has been suspended from serving in the court!

This after Buan snitched on former President Duterte during an impromptu meeting with Bossa over wine and cocktails, and even flaunted it on her Twitter account.

ICC is investigating Duterte for alleged extra-judicial killings in his war on drugs.
