PH Government To Tax Manufacturers And Consumers Of Bland and Spicy Foods!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – The government of the Philippines is serious about improving the health status of Filipinos and preventing the onset or exacerbation of common diet-related illnesses such as diabetes, kidney disease and obesity.

A major strategy of the government is to impose new or increased taxes on sugary as well as salty foods on both stakeholders — manufacturers and consumers.

But in order to avoid being accused of discrimination, the Marcos administration is now also contemplating on taxing manufacturers and consumers of bland and spicy foods — to the disappointment of tokwa (tofu) makers and laing fans.

All for one, one for all.

Marcos Government To Impose Taxes On Unli Rice, Leche Flan Vendors!

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Aiming to significantly improve the health status of all Filipinos, the Marcos administration is planning to impose new taxes on junk and unhealthy foods.

This was announced today by the Department of Finance.

Among the measures to be undertaken is to raise taxes on restaurants and establishments that serve unli rice (unlimited rice) and sugary desserts like leche flan.

“It’s shooting two birds with one bullet,” Malacañang said, “as it will also prevent rice shortages in the country.

Many will recall that during the regime of Ferdinand Marcos, Sr., the government launched a campaign to encourage eateries to serve only half a cup of rice due to shortages in supply.

Here’s to a healthy Philippines!

Bb. Maharlika Bags Major International Commercial Endorsement Deal!

LOS ANGELES, California (The Adobo Chronicles, Los Angeles Bureau) – Los Angeles-based Filipino Vlogger Bb. Maharlika is finally reaping the fruits of her hard labor.

Admittedly a supporter of then Presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos, Maharlika has turned her coat inside out and is now the No. 1 basher of Marcos and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos. She’d do anything to attract online engagements, including wrapping a giant (fake) snake around her necki.

Well, Maharlika may have been remotely a choice for an influential position in the Marcos administration (to her great dismay), but a Canadian food company, President’s Choice has stepped up to recognize her.

Maharlika is featured on the packaging of the company’s newest food product, the UBE BOBA (translation: stupid purple yam), a pie variation of the Philippines’ favorite cake.

Congratulations to Maharlika. We look forward to your next big commercial success — perhaps as a celebrity endorser for BOBA TEA?
