Olympics: U.S. And The Philippines — For Richer Or Poorer

In the thrilling world of Olympic gold, the Philippines and the U.S. take wildly different approaches.

In the Philippines, a single gold medal is a one-way ticket to millions of pesos, free houses, and lifetime supplies of chicken joy. Winning athletes are treated like royalty, with rewards that could make even the most seasoned business mogul envious.

Meanwhile, in the U.S., the tables are flipped. Instead of raking in the dough, American gold medalists seem to have a new role—bankrolling political campaigns. Take Simone Biles, for instance, who apparently had $4 million burning a hole in her pocket and decided to donate it to Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign. It’s almost as if U.S. politicians are the ones in need of financial aid!

Perhaps American athletes are just richer, or maybe the politicians are just that much poorer. Either way, it’s clear: in the U.S., even winning gold comes at a cost!

June 15: No Remittances For Paid Trolls!

Ah, the DDSheets and the critics of the Marcos administration have outdone themselves with their latest grand gesture of “civil disobedience.” June 15, 2004, will forever be remembered as “OFW Non-Remittance Day,” a masterstroke aimed at toppling the economy by halting those precious wire transfers from overseas Filipinos.

Genius, right? Except, of course, for the minor oversight that the first to feel the pinch will be none other than the paid pro-Duterte and anti-Marcos bloggers. These valiant keyboard warriors, accustomed to their regular doses of cash from mysterious foreign benefactors, will find their bank accounts as empty as their rhetoric.

Irony, it seems, has a sense of humor. One can only imagine the stunned expressions as these influencers experience a true taste of economic sabotage.

In the grand play of political theater, it’s a plot twist worthy of a standing ovation. Bravo, DDSheets, bravo!

Announcing The Winners Of The Meralco Bill Reveal Challenge!

The Adobo Chronicles has announced the top 3 winners of our Meralco Bill Reveal Challenge where we asked our subscribers and followers to post their outrageous electric bill from Meralco. This, in the light of weeks of extreme hot temperatures in Metro Manila and elsewhere:

Third placer: Netizen whose bill reached P26, 215.45 which could have made her the grand champion except that P12,444.93 of the total amount was due to an unpaid previous bill.

Second placer: Netizen who despite excessive use of several air conditioning units, received a bill of zero, zilch nada!

Grand champion: Netizen who received the shock of her life when she opened the Meralco bill. It was quoted in U.S. dollars — $1,220.16 which converts — in the current prevailing U.S. dollar to Philippine peso exchange rate — to over P69,000!

Meanwhile, Meralco has warned the public that posting their electric bills without covering up their customer account number could subject them to identity theft and account issues.
