MMDA’s Misguided Priorities

In a move that can only be described as visionary, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has decided that what the bustling metropolis truly needs is an MMFF (Metro Manila Film Festival) Auditorium. Because clearly, amidst the chaos of traffic, the symphony of car horns, and the ballet of illegally parked vehicles, what the people of Metro Manila have been yearning for is a dedicated space to showcase annually recycled slapstick blockbusters.

One might argue that there are already numerous venues available for such cinematic revelry, both public and private. But who needs logic when you can have an exclusive, taxpayer-funded auditorium that serves as a testament to the city’s priorities? Forget about bike lanes, footbridges, garbage cleanup, and traffic solutions; what the people really want is a monument to the pinnacle of Pinoy cinema—festive films that, once a year, unite the masses in an unparalleled celebration of mediocrity.

Because in a city grappling with real issues, what could be more essential than a shrine to the annual pageantry of cinematic absurdity? Clearly, the MMDA knows what the people truly need.

Andy Bautista Posts Bail To Attend Folsom Street Fair!

SAN FRANCISCO, California (The Adobo Chronicles, San Francisco Bureau) – Former Commission on Elections Chief Andy Bautista appeared in court yesterday to post bail after he was sued by the U.S. government for alleged money laundering.

Bautista, who fled the Philippines in 2017 to escape accusations of unexplained wealth and to dodge a subpoena issued by the Senate, was all smiles as he handed the clerk of court a check for $50,000.

The Adobo Chronicles caught up with Bautista as he was leaving the courthouse. We asked him about his urgency was in posting bail.

He said Sunday, September 24, is Folsom Street Fair, the annual street gathering/party of leather-loving San Franciscans and those with all sorts of fetishes connected with cowhide. (Bautista is known in the Philippines of having a leather fetish, and Filipinos call him “boy latigo,” meaning whip boy.)

“I wouldn’t miss Folsom for anything,” he said.

We asked him what he intends to wear to the fair but he declined to say. “I have a flair for surprises,” he said, “so I’ll see there.”
