Leni Robredo Castigates Mar Roxas For Alleged Vote-Buying

imageNAGA CITY, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Vice presidential candidate Leni Robredo arrived in her hometown after a 12-hour grueling bus ride, ABS-CBN reports.

Immediately after her homecoming, the Liberal Party bet met with local officials from Naga, who reported alleged incidents of vote-buying not just in their province.

Robredo said votes are allegedly bought for as low as P500.

She expressed dismay that some politicians resort to dishonest means to win their positions. Although she did not name names, many believe that she was referring to her own presidential running mate, Mar Roxas.

It will be recalled that senatorial aspirant Greco Belgica on Tuesday filed a petition before the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) to investigate the alleged vote-buying of the Liberal Party (LP) for its standard-bearer Mar Roxas.

In his petition, Belgica attached a copy of the video “proving that indeed such vote-buying scheme spearheaded by the Liberal Party to assuage the votes in favor of their standard-bearer, Mar Roxas.”

The viral video shows the alleged distribution of envelopes supposedly containing money during a campaign sortie of the Liberal Party last April 16.

The Adobo Chronicles commends Robredo for being independent-minded and unwilling to condone any form of dishonesty, including those committed by Roxas.

Donald Trump’s Name Shows Up In Philippines’ Presidential Ballot

Questionable Vote Counting Machine

MANILA, Philippines (The Adobo Chronicles, Manila Bureau) – Donald Trump is now the presumptive Republican nominee for president of the United States, but it appears he is also running for president of the Philippines.

In recent weeks, the Philippines’ Commission on Elections (COMELEC) has been testing the new Vote Counting Machines (VCM) that will be used in Monday’s presidential elections.  The VCM will automatically print ballot receipts so that the voter can check to make sure that his or her vote was credited to the correct candidate.

Several incidents were reported wherein the printed ballot receipts didn’t reflect the candidates chosen by the voters.  This disturbing discrepancy has happened during early voting by overseas Filipinos as well as during local dry-runs of the machines by election officers.

But the most disturbing of the incidents happened during a dry-run in one of the polling places in Metro Manila.  The elections officer “voted” for frontrunner candidate Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, but when the receipt was printed, it showed a vote not for Duterte but for Donald Trump.

COMELEC officials suspect that the VCM in question was hacked by the Internet group Anonymous which earlier warned of dire consequences if the Aquino government would resort to cheating or fraud in order to ensure the victory of its standard bearer Mar Roxas.

In previous incidents, voters or poll officials voted for Duterte, but the vote was credited to Roxas in the ballot receipt.

Bernie Sanders Endorses Mayor Rodrigo Duterte

imageMONTPELIER, Vermont (The Adobo Chronicles, Washington Bureau) – With a clenched fist symbolic of the campaign of Philippine presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte, Democratic presidential aspirant Senator Bernie Sanders today endorsed the controversial mayor of Davao City.

This is the first time in the history of the United States that a Philippine presidential candidate has received the endorsement of both American political parties.  Earlier, Republican Donald Trump gave his thumbs up for Duterte to become the next president of the United States.

In an impassioned speech delivered in his home state, Sanders likened himself to Duterte, saying that both of them have launched a “revolution” against the Establishment and against politics as usual.

In his campaign speeches, Duterte did not hold back in saying that he will establish a revolutionary government if congress gets in the way of his reforms.

The foul-mouthed, tough-talking mayor leads all national polls and is expected to emerge victorious when the Filipino people cast their votes in tomorrow’s presidential elections.

Birds of the same feather stick together, even if one bird has a slightly different feather (Trump).
